My leg workouts have been killing me - I walk like I imagine a gay guy walks after getting laid - for most of the weeks, almost two months now.

This Wednesday was:
Squats
Hack Squats
Leg Press
Leg Extension
Weighted Lunges
10min cool down cycle

I need to use the door frame to help on and off the toilet :(

I love leg days.

How much you squat brah?

Nothing at the moment, just started again :( Think we were doing 140kg on last set to failure.

Hopefully it'll go up fast again... used to do in the 200's when I was young :(

LOL!

I have almost the same workout, but haven't done legs in about 2 weeks now. I hate leg workouts I rather go for a run and get a good leg workout.

Nah - I like the pain from a leg workout - I don't like sitting on the tiolet trying to figure out how I'm going to get off it...

I find with most other area's I don't feel the burn as much... even if I use really heavy weights.

you guys should seriously consider your leg workouts and how useful they are--- depending on your goals ofcourse.
any well informed person who has done theier research will know that muscle helps to burn excess fat and speed up ur metabolism.
and your biggest muscles are your thigh muscles = awesome fat burning machines!!!

I explained this to the other half - she's a jogger - and I got her to join us on Wednesday, she's still complaining about how stiff she is, and how difficult it is to sit :p

Want to know a trick I learned from a mate for sore muscles? It works like a charm, why I don't know I have my theories but it works.

2 Disprins after your workout.
Take it AFTER THE WORKOUT not BEFORE. Thank me in kindness later :p

Yeh - I'm watching my knees carefully with squats...getting on in years and don't want any problems later.

I'll give that a try next week...so damn sore today.

Bud do you stop there for time? Only reason I ask is there is a lack of dedicated Hamstring excercise.... ie leg-curls. Do you train calves on a seperate day? Otherwise our workouts are the same :)
Love to hate legs!! :D

Just want to tone and firm. Not Madonna's upper arms, but nicely defined.

Sorry for the delayed response (not that you were waiting for mine - but anyways :p). The best rep range is 8 - 12. It also seems like the quickest way to shape, is to do positives (your contracting motion) and negatives (the stretching motion). Try with a 3sec positive and 5 sec negative. The goal being to feel the 'burn' after each set.

Are you going with an overall tone (biceps + triceps) or is there one you are focusing on??

Calves are done on a different day - else I wouldn't be walking

The leg exercises are changed weekly, so you'll get leg curls every other week.... makes things interesting.

Stay off the free weights then and use the circuit. Circuit will tone and define.

I'm not sure if I understand this correctly, so let me know, but if you're saying you could tone your arms quicker doing the circuit (basically full body) instead of focused excercises, I would disagree.

The other misconception is that by doing free-weights you're suddenly going to turn into the Hulk.

Cut yes.
Blu wants to define her arms not build them. For that free weights is not what she is after.

No it's not about going Hulk. If you hit free weights without cutting your muscles you will end up with one of two things or both:
1. You will hurt yourself.
2. You will build mass in your muscles but they will look pretty crap.

Blu is a female who just wants to define (cut) her upper body/arms. If you guys are telling her to hit free weights I'm glad I don't follow any advice in this thread :D

edit:

Let me clear this up so there is no confusion...

The machines on the circuit makes sure you place your body correctly, and thus you focus exactly on the muscle that machine is built for and you do them correctly. I have seen way too many people come into the gym and think they are just that good. Walk to the free weights without ever having done any training and end up with torn muscles, pinched nerves and so on.

I agree with most of that. Again I say though, using weight does Not mean you are going to build huge muscle. To say that a lady who would like cut shouldn't be aiming for free weights is..... odd. You would also be surprised at how many people use the machines incorrectly. Common ones to watch would be Calf Raises, Leg Extension, Pull Down machines and the Tricep Pushdown. Whether you use the circuit's machines or free weights, you are still using weight. I do agree that someone who walks in and thinks they can just do it, stands to hurt themselves before doing their body any good.

Perhaps this was my error to start though.... Blu, are you just starting, or a regular? And with that, do you currently use the circuit or are you using free weights??

I agree fully with what you said. Just glad you guys are asking her now instead of just rushing her to the free weights. It's a start :)

I run 5 km 2 to 3 days a week and I gym another 3 days a week ... in the gym I do rowing, machines (circuit) and free weights as well.
