Another area where people tend to make form mistakes is when lowering the bar...so easy to just let gravity take over...DON'T! Asking for injuries...believe me...

For sure - you also lose value in the reverse / negative form. Never underestimate the value of the second half of any rep!

Stronglifts program claims building muscle whilst burning fat? Did anyone here experience this personally ?

I've seen it extend into a barbell shrug and have done this myself, though not necessarily extended back.

That's something different... And I doubt you'll be able to do that when you're going for max weight with no reps.

I'm assuming any exercise will burn a little fat while building muscle. The issue is, if you want real muscle you're going to have to eat, which means you'll be putting on more fat than you burn.

If you have never done exercise before, this will most definitely happen, it did for me at least. In the bodybuilding world they call this body re-composition. Basically you lose some fat, and gain muscle, so your body weight stays averagely the same, but you will look better.

Once the initial fat is broken down, this wont happen again, then you have to make do like most body builders, where you gain weight to gain muscle, the lose weight to lose fat.

Mike Chang talks about the 'afterburner' effect. I guess it all depends on your own metabolism and goals though.

Most workouts should burn fat. But if you're eating at a caloric surplus you wont lose fat you may just gain fat.

It's always mostly about caloric intake if your goal is to lose weight.

It's also about food and carb ratio / type of carb. If you're downing loads of high GI carbs - white bread, muffins, sugar, you're bound to pack on fat more than if you are consuming lower GI carbs and eating smaller meals more frequently.

Cool, yeah stronglifts dude does seem to advocate lean muscle mass and says getting big is about eating big.

OK, I'm gonna just focus on getting consistent and eating kinda right and will let my body recompose itself over the next couple of months. Will focus on strength gain and worry about the rest later on.

yeah, he seems to offer good advice but he is too much about trying to sell his product and possibly bro science so i take what he says with a pinch of salt sometimes :p Furious Pete made a video of how these guys make their before and after shot photos :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=M957dACQyfU&feature=endscreen

Eat clean. Train Mean.

All you need. Make sure your eating habits are in check and train with intesity and most importantly...CONSISTANCY.

Some people are genetic marvels that can morph into muscle gods in short periods of time...other not so much (without gear). So just keep at it. Because once the changes start coming...damn they come hard and fast and that's when it's all worth it.

The result is usually : "I'm not making progress" I used to be one of those. I can see when I'm on a cutting diet or not... as soon as my calories drop below 3000, I start losing strength.

Of course, always take advice with a pinch of salt, but nothing wrong with him making money from it, especially if he can back it up. One thing about Chang's stuff that I like is the sheer number of people (including myself) seeing results. You'd get results on many systems, for sure, but you have to find the one that suits you. His is just one of many, I like it for the structure.

Personally, one of the biggest put offs in the past for me, is the number of people out there who treat bodybuilding and fitness in general as an exact science when it's far from it. So many people make comments about certain exercises, foods, times to train, etc. as if they're stating proven fact, when it's not as black and white...

And the notion of looking like your favourite Muscle and Fitness freak without being able to spend a heck of a lot of time thinking about food, exercise and sleep is ridiculous. People don't realise that it's a full time job.

For me it's about setting realistic goals and comparing myself with myself while not being scared to let someone else motivate me.

Oh, you bought his program? How much was it? I've held off on buying any particular program as it seems there's enough free advice around so basically i need to choose something and stick to it!

AthleanX is a program I think I would buy if I bought one.

Btw, watch the Furious Pete vid, Mike Chang's before and after pics feature there :p

Woah that Furious Pete video is crazy!

Is Evox a fine brand for Protein shakes?

Yes, Evox is one of the better brands. But don't buy anything other than 100% Whey Protein unless you are having trouble hitting your macro's.

I'm bulking on 2500 calories when I should be bulking on 3000, my maintenance level is 1464 calories per day so eating 3000 is quite the task.

That's where weight gainers can come into play.

Many of these programs you can buy, is also available on the net for free if you look hard enough :P

Thanks there are quite a few evox proteins like that synergy one and super protein. Must I buy the one that just says 100 percent. Bear in mind I'm doing a home workout mainly body weight.

"Most of the time it's very hard to believe that a certain suppliment or maybe training program can really make you do the exact same thing if you follow the exact program?

Lol @ the disclaimer... "I just want to make sure I'm not going to be sued... the physiques in those pictures may have actually been the results of the programs advertised"

I get that you can do a bunch of things including lighting to make yourself look good in the after shot, but produce a bunch of videos and look good in them all?

Regardless, what he effectively said is that anyone with a decent phsyique can make themselves look fat by eating badly and posing badly lol. The biggest misconception out there is that you can look your best all the time. No fitness celeb wants to look unfit on camera, but the reality is that often we look our best after a good workout and we look average in between... That's where a lot of people fall short. They're constantly comparing themselves with others and get disappointed at home in front of the mirror on their off days lol. Usually that's why they train with a long top in the gym for the first 10-15 minutes :D

So about Furious Pete... I wonder what he'd say if someone asked him where he got his rockin' physique :p from... photoshop, fake tan and spray and cook? :p

Nothing new there, but good advice about 'don't believe everything you see in the marketing hype'. Too many people pick a program based on the so called 'facts'.

My advice? Tinuva said it :D
Try before you buy, but by all means buy if you like what you try.

You're being too picky ;) Go with the 100% whey IMO... that or go with the one that fits your budget. Avoid soya at all costs IMO - 100% whey should be just that - whey. Don't put all your emphasis on protein - that's marketing hype. Eating good whole food and decent carbs are necessary if you're wanting to put on muscle. Eating smaller meals regularly helps too.

And lastly, don't take every word people say too seriously or literally... language is a funny thing, it's easy to look too closely and miss the meaning. Try stuff... see how it works for you... everyone has a different metabolism and genes and require different stuff to achieve results... and often the results will be different from person to person.
