The Boko Haram Thread

And also the contrast in how the world pays attention. African lives are still treated as worth less, unfortunately. :(

African governments should do something. Boko Haram is busy taking over Nigerian army bases. Clearly they need help.

Chances are if any African army helps physically then its own population is will face the same (real) threats.

BOKO HARAM CARRIES OUT MASSIVE OFFENSIVE IN NORTH - NIGERIAN OFFICIAL

The Islamist extremist group Boko Haram has carried out attacks on at least eleven places in northern Nigeria, a government official said Thursday.

The number of people killed is still unclear. The official rejected a report that up to 2,000 people may have died.

"Many people from the villages fled into the bush," he said.

The official, who did not wish to be named, gave no estimate of how many people were feared dead.

The authorities were sending aid to the region.

The attacks took place on Wednesday near the town of Baga, which Boko Haram is said to have attacked several days previously, taking over a military base.

Earlier Thursday, President Paul Biya of Cameroon called for international help to stop Boko Haram, a day after the Islamist terrorist group threatened to escalate attacks in Cameroon.

"From Mali to Somalia to the Central African Republic, these terrorists have the same agenda," said Biya. "A global threat requires a global response."

Biya responded to a video message posted on YouTube on Wednesday, in which Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said the insurgents will target Cameroon more forcefully if its army continued operations against them.

"Oh Paul Biya, if you don't stop this, your evil plot, you will taste what has befallen Nigeria ... Your troops cannot do anything to us," Shekau said in Arabic.

Biya declared war on Boko Haram at a security summit in May, after the group started to frequently infiltrate into Cameroon from neighbouring Nigeria.

The president deployed more than a thousand troops and special units to the Far North Region. The soldiers have killed dozens of insurgents over the past months.

Biya said he was disappointed, however, that a multinational security force planned during a summit in Paris had not yet been set up.

reminds me a little of the hideous & violent rape and murder of Anene Booysen a while back.

she was pretty much forgotten in the dark as pistorious and the pretty white blonde girl, reeva steenkamp that he killed, remained firmly in the spotlight

Just need Boko Haram to piss off the right people (read: US of A) and we could see an end to this horror.

So... any Boko Haram faithfuls on the forums? C'mon... do us all a favour and go make some threatening remarks towards Obama and Co.

Alternatively, I suggest marine1 should just drive up north and sort this k*k out for us.

If they get a full on foothold in Nigeria then Africa has huge problems.
I think a army needs to go and wipe them out to show these and the rest of these fkers that their way is not acceptable to society.
Perhaps a coalition force.
The yanks will be interested because of the oil in the bush.
There are huge profits to be made by taking over Nigeria.

I'm a Muslim and I don't particularly like America. But I'd fully support them going in and wiping these ****ers out.
As long as they keep collateral damage to a minimum. Which is not their style:(

The world paid attention when they kidnapped all those school children. It's just that this conflict has been ongoing, it's not new anymore. This happens all the time now to the point that it is pretty much normalized.

Either way there's going to be a lot of collateral damage, just a difference in who will be doing the damaging.

Not even a mention on BBC.... They're still on a mission about the France attack

Another "Vietnam"

They can provide resources to fight them, especially on the long distance surveillance side. They can monitor and jam radio transmissions , provide satellite data, use counter insurgency tactics especially the spread of misinformation to disorient the enemy. They just need a willing partner on the ground and to work together

Sickening. Where will this end? I guess it wont. It will get worse ... and worse and worse. Islamic militancy is spreading and no one seems to know how to stop it.

Time for bed I think and to pull the cover over my head. :(
