The BYD (EV) Thread

Around the 80km mark is my baseline for ev range for a Phev for it to make sense to me.
Does it have to be a PHEV?

Why not buy a Nissan leaf off webuycars for R150k that also does 80km?

All you have to do it replace the battery for R150k and increase range to 300km. The only spanner is the plug type (not ccs), too hammered to remember what its called.

For 80kms range yes. For a full ev it needs to be more, probably around 450 comfortably.

Got to love these condition reports on wbc, engine running smoothly on a Nissan leaf lol

Verdict

Despite the few gripes we had with the Atto 2 DM-i, it made a good first impression overall. It’s a decent compact crossover, offering sufficient power and torque outputs, a respectable amount of interior space, and oodles of tech at a palatable price point. In addition, compared to its aforementioned rivals, which employ “traditional” hybrid powertrains, the BYD’s PHEV arrangement offers electric-only driving (up to a claimed 40 km). If you are in the market for a new-energy compact crossover, the Atto 2 DM-i is worth a look.
