After a week of silence and hardly a call to the Join The Queue National Arrest Helpline, the police have issued a directive as to their future modus operandi, after they distanced themselves from a SAPS Limpopo Province Police directive claiming a 3kg possession threshold for arrest. This figure was verified by their media officer live on the #HotboxShow, a weekly Cannabis culture magazine show on YouTube. The document was sent to a number of police stations and social media pages were abuzz with the 3kg possession news. Some individuals rang their local police to be told the document was regarded as legit. It seemed like we’d all woken up in the promised land for a day or two.

Now, a week since the judgement was read and the police did a 180 on the 3kg figure, a SAPS National Directive has been circulated to police stations and prosecutors countrywide. It plainly states that the use and cultivation of Dagga at home is legal. (The word ‘legal’ is used, and we needed to read it twice for it to actually sink in).

However, If the police suspect you to be transporting, shipping, exporting, trading, prescribing or otherwise making money from your weed, then they have the sweeping powers to arrest you, based on individual circumstances.

The caveat is, and again we had to read this part twice – if there is onlyDagga involved (and no other drugs /guns or other crime taking place), the police mustn’t detain you. You will instead be summoned to a subsequent court hearing. No more compulsory long weekend detentions and treatment like a guilty AF animal.

Following a groundbreaking court judgment last week, national police commissioner Lieutenant General Khehla Sitole has instructed the Hawks, all police section heads and commanders of the police training academy not to arrest anyone for the private use, cultivation or possession of cannabis. The Constitutional Court last week declared invalid provisions of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act which prohibited the private possession use and cultivation of cannabis.

In a directive — which the Mail & Guardian has seen and has been sent to all police commanders and division heads at the Hawks — the police are advised to immediately cease the arrest of people found in possession of cannabis while parliament decides on the amount an individual may carry. However, Sitole reminded police that the use of cannabis in a public place is still illegal. In last week’s judgment, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo ordered that if an officer is unsure whether the cannabis found on a person is for private or commercial use, the officer should rather not carry out an arrest. The directive further instructed police to adhere to Zondo’s order.

Officers are advised to “take into account all the relevant circumstances of a particular situation” before deciding whether or not to arrest. “If it can be said that there is reasonable suspicion that a person has committed an offense in terms of the relevant legislation, or poses a flight risk [the police should arrest them],” Sitole wrote. “[Police] should rather register a criminal case docket and ensure that the suspect is brought to court by means of a summons or written notice,” Sitole stated.

Sitole further warned police officers not to implement any other directives after the apparent leaking of a document from the Limpopo Hawks. The document set the limit of how much cannabis can be cultivated or possessed privately at three kilograms.

Where have you seen its allowed? The Limpopo office has distanced itself from that document.

Anyone tried canna cookies from different sites? I see there is a massive price difference for the same amount of cookies. Bobby's cookies is nearly 6 times less expensive than other sites. So how do they compare otherwise?

Nothing for me is stronger, and more delicious, than Bobby's canna-cookies.

I would strongly advise against eating a whole cookie if you are a first-timer or weekend dagga-user.

I would strongly agree with you, even if you are an avid smoker, I would advise against more than 1 biscuit hourly...

I questioned my life choices the other day after consuming 2 full biscuits in the space of a couple hours..

Needless to say, I'll be steering clear of Bobby's Cana cookies for a bit... That was an experience I won't recommend to anybody!!

Look, 3kg of cannabis, is alot of cannabis. I think it would be very hard to explain person consumption with 3kg on you. The new regs state that if it isnt 100% clear that you are dealing, then they have to leave you alone because there is no definition of a personal amount of cannabis.

You get clear personal users and you get clear dealers and then you get everyone in the middle. I dont think 3kg falls in that category, but I could be wrong. This is going to be up to the police to determine and thats where there could be issues. Personal amounts get seen as dealing amounts because cops dont know better. I hope not anyway but best be careful anyway.

I read and watch reports from people that have taken strong edible citing experiences of dying, out-of-body experiences and intense introspection. I thought it was exaggeration and the edibles that I have had over the years, and recently, have not resulted in my remotely tripping that intensely.

Then I ate a Bobby cookie. TBH I ate 2 because they were delicious and had zero taste of weed, unlike anything else I have tried. Then I also smoked some of my own weed.

Dear Lord.

The effects came on after about 50min and were really pleasant up to about 1h30m after eating them. It was then I realised that it was like taking a flip in a jetfighter: the acceleration and take-off is exciting, you are a little apprehensive but you tell yourself you can deal with it. Then the pilot pulls back on the stick and it is a 6G+ pull-up, accelerating to as you rapidly climb 30,000ft. I was over it after the metaphorical 6G pull-up but Bobby's was only getting started, like a mad Russian at the stick of a plane as robust as a MiG-29. And the Russian is mistaking your petrified screaming for cheers of excitement.

Long story short: I flipped between insane paranoia about being poisoned to intense feelings of euphoria, the latter which were so incredible that think I forced myself to crash back into paranoia because I was convinced that I died. No matter how much I tried to accept that this was just the weed I simply could not; if I were able to to do that I could have remained in the euphoric state, but alas.

My mistake was smoking as well after eating 2 cookies. I subsequently ate 1 cookie without supplementing and the high was intense but very nice, although tiredness overcame me and I slept like a king from 21:00 on a Saturday night.

That sounds like almost exactly what i experienced Thursday last week.

I think my mistake was also having a bong hit of some greenhouse between the 2 biscuits, which must've been what caused the extreme up & down!
