The Capitec banking app is here

Good one Capitec. I'd also want my bank, Fnb, to introduce a security app which generates security tokens like Capitec's one instead of sending sms OTP.

Now if only their online banking had the ability to purchase prepaid electricity, cellphone airtime and data bundles, and pay for speeding fines, I would move over in a flash from FNB. I don't understand why they haven't added these features yet. The lack of these fundamental features are stopping a lot of people from moving over completely to Capitec.

Why do you want to leave FNB so badly?

I can buy electricity, airtime and bundles using my Capitec account.

There is no functionality to do that with Capitec's online banking platform.

Is via the cellphone ussd code eventually it will be added to that

*130*3279#
*120*3279# (if you want airtime and have none)

Well that's not online banking.

ye but the majority of people they targetting and who bank with them use cellphones only anyway so probably why they have not done it yet and why this app was needed.

We have to go into a Capitec to activate it right?

Yes just need your ID and Proof of Address like your bank statement or utility bill and it's done in under 20 mins if lucky and they print your card there so you don't have to wait for it to be delivered :D.

You mean buy airtime, etc via third party sites? Yes, that can always be done but is a touch clumsy and I have had two instances where purchased airtime never reached the phone, and there was a big run-around to get it sorted

With Nedbank you can buy airtime for any phone off the site, but they charge you an arm and leg for the facility.

Having a Capitec account since 2010 I have saved over R 9200 in bank fees in this period. That is a lot of money IMO and worth the change. Nedbank charge R27,50 for paying someone R5000 and Capitec do it for R1,50

Theres no need for sites to get airtime with capitec use the ussd codes I linked :p

But yes they have also saved me quite a lot in bank fees compared to when I was using Absa bank and online purchasing is a plus which Absa never had for savings accounts.

Thanks, I didn't know this. Will give it a go. Useful info..!
