The Droid TV thread

After fiddling with pressing the OK button together with the left and right direction keys and the mouse pointer key somewhere in the mix, it seems that the menu will start to scroll left and right. I haven't managed to pinpoint exactly what to press yet, but this might be worth trying. None of the three Netflix 2.4.1 versions that I have seem to support the IR remote.

Hi d4zza,

Here's a HowTo remote control the DroidTV box with an Android phone

It's been a while so I can't remember how well it works, if at all

Cool thanks. Seem to have it working with Smart iRemote.

Smart iRemote works over the network via IP so there is no need for a server side install on the device.

Apart from the niggly Netflix issue, I am really liking my new toy. I'm sure a second one is on the cards.

Alrighty, so my MX3 arrived today. Very happy except for one thing: the wifi performance is just horrible.
HD content (even at 720p) buffers every 30s. I did some file transfer tests using ES and got a transfer rate of 1.8MB/s from my NAS which would explain the choppy playback. The link speed is reported to be 65Mbps. On wired I got around 8MB/s. File transfer from other wireless devices is way faster than that.
Any suggestions on how to improve wireless performance?

Did some more playing today, this might interest some of you.

Spotify is not supported via the Play Store, but there is a sneaky way around that, and ensuring the legit apk.

https://m.spotify.com/us/?group=android

Select manually download the application

Like the Netflix app, you can't use the normal arrow keys, but will need a gyro mouse or similar.

Does Spotify work without an SD card installed in the MXQ? Are you using a DNS service?

I haven't used it again after it stopped working saying that I had been out of the US for too long!

I have a card in, but nothing installed on it.
I'm running Unotelly for my Netflix so yeah, got a DNS spoofer running.
Spotify works for free, the catch is you can't offline play.

You don't need a DNS spoofing service if you pay for Spotify. One of the advantages of a Spotify Premium account is the ability to use it anywhere. You do need a DNS spoofer to set it up.

Try to see if Spotify still works when the card has been removed.

You might be able to replace Unotelly with one of these free DNS services ...

Ok does the MXQ have wifi and bluetooth? Not fussed with bluetooth, but wondering. If not, can we get a wifi dongle or bluetooth dongle? Im particularly interested in this, as I would like to use a wireless or bluetooth headset. And yes Im getting close to get one lol

It has both.

@Icemanbrfc: I don't think that it is possible to add Bluetooth support to the 1GB MXIII by plugging in a USB Bluetooth adapter. The MXIII does not appear to support USB WiFi adapters either - I have already tried to connect a Realtek RTL8191SU based USB adapter.

The S802 processor in the MXIII is a lot faster than the S805 in the MXQ though so if you can stretch your budget this is definitely the better option in my opinion. Android 5.0 should be available quite soon so I'm sure that the better processor performance will be very useful.

@Icemanbrfc: The MXQ has dual band WiFi and Bluetooth and the 1GB MXIII only has single band WiFi - don't think you can add USB Bluetooth or a USB WiFi adapter to any of the devices. The 2GB MXIII has Bluetooth and dual band WiFi. The MXQ scores around 16000 in Antutu and the MXIII about 38000.

Hi HorusZA

Are you still having wireless issues?

Thanks
