The Droid TV thread

First of I just want to thank AVSupply for jumping through hoops for me after being dissatisfied with the Q7 and swapping it wityh the DroidTV. Thanks again Jacque amazing service. So has anyone used Fusion or Xfinity to add repositories to XBMC since the main XBMC guys advise against using them. Also does anyone know how to replace the GBox XBMC with Beyond XBMX since when I replace the default XBMC with Beyond I'm not able to select it from the 3d launcher as it just goes to the home screen.

Thanks Flippy. The second one also didn't work. Will try that first one after work

I'm a bit shy with Xfinity since some of their add-ons use GA and I prefer to keep my viewing habits private not to mention the odd adverts. I have subsequently "Fresh started" my XBMC and only use official XBMC or XBMCHUB/Fusion add-ons.

As an added note, I have donated to the developers whose add-ons I enjoy and use often.

+1 on the service and support from AVS!

@neoassasin: You should be very relieved that you didn't purchase your Q7 from Geekbuying, DX or Aliexpress. Apparently most customers give up on trying to return their products to China as the return transport costs usually outweigh the benefits!

Hi sy-uname,

If you have an uncapped internet account, you will be very happy with this device and the XBMC IPTV addons. No unotelly required, all you need is an internet connection

I stream all my "local" media from a Samba share, and none of my mkvs fail to play

Pseudo, are you referring to PseudoTV?

Thanks

Yes I'm referring to Pseudo tv, it's main requirements at this stage. I have 10GB 3G contract frm telkom mobile, so connection is not always at it's best. As I don't always use the whole 10GB, sometimes I can stream movies frm Hulu by installing some addon(forgot the name) on Chrome browser but then it's only frm pc.

@yotch. thanks for those sites, I'll have a look.

So, I tested 3CX DROIDDesktop and AirDroid. No success.

Have you tried VNC server?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.onaips.vnc&hl=en

I totally get what you're trying to do - I've been here a few times and got so frustrated with the limited options for 'remoting' into an android device. Every search produced an app that allowed you to either control it remotely for media playback or access a PC from the droid. I'll test VNC on my own box to see if it works.

You need to use VNC client on your PC to access it, I'm not sure if there's a specific one that works, but there are a few around including the original app - RealVNC. There's a how to here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.onaips.vnc&hl=en

Some folk are complaining about it being buggy so I'm not holding my breath, but I'd be super happy to have something like this working...

@AVsupply is there a reason why the box needs to be rooted?

Has anyone managed to get SkyGo working on one of these boxes? I know this app checks if the boxes it installs on is rooted.

Hi AVSupply, what is the best upgrade plan, from stock 1.6? Should I upgrade to one of the firmware betas? Are they stable? Or should I just upgrade xbmc, as I'm mostly only using that. Is there a specific custom one I should get? Thanks

Beta firmware versions from 1.1.8 are unrooted, but AdrianH confirmed it didn't help

My suggestion is to stay on 1.1.6 until they release 1.1.10

PseudoTV installs on XBMC 12.0 but fails to install on Gotham (Dependency problem). Have never used it before so might be trying to install an older version
