The Droid TV thread

Does BBC iPlayer work on the mx3? Tried the same apk's on my Samsung S4 and they work fine.

I get the no Internet connection error on BBC iPlayer which is clearly based on a firmware issue as it works flawlessly on my S4. Other problems I've come across is the Netflix app where the latest version I can use is 3.7.1 vs the latest 3.8.3 due to forced dns lookups in the newer versions. Also, the DSTV Now app doesn't work because the device is rooted.

I've installed Pandora which works but I need to test how the app performs as I could only scroll through my channels with the mouse wheel and the standard remote was no good. Vevo also works but I didn't have much time to test the interface. Most of my testing last night was conducted with a mouse so I need to test which apps can be decently navigated with the remote. I have ordered a mx3 gyro remote but will only get it next week.

Based on the features of the box, is there any reason that the box should be rooted?

Hi guys,

So after testing 10-bit playback I encountered the following problem. The file plays in XBMC but with the normal discoloration and pixelation when trying to play 10-bit encodes in a 8-bit player. I do not see any way to change decoding settings?

In MXplayer I played around with the hardware vs software decoding. The hardware decoding suggested for 10-bit playback does not work. Only black screen with sound. Softsubs display correctly. The file plays with software decoding activated and 4-core processing. However, the playback stutters.

Am I expecting too much of this box or do you have any ideas/suggestion/tips to play 10-bit seamlessly in XBMC?

You're probably expecting too much from MX Player.

Cool. I'll send you a patch this afternoon, please mail me at [email protected]

ps - The reboot app and ES Filexplorer won't function correctly without root

Didnt work, media player now stuck on Droid TV media player bootup screen *:(

I rebooted into recovery and the Android man with the blue status bar came up. Once done the system rebooted but was stuck on the droid tv screen. I switched off the device and removed the sd card and restarted but still got stuck on boot page.

I'm on the latest and greatest Netflix, how do you connect to Dynamic DNS?
Netflix should just work on the latest build. My case it does. Same with Hulu.
I use Unotelly on the box so no complex setups to DDNS severs, try uninstalling Netflix and side loading the new Netflix once u are operational again works good on my end. You need an airmouse man BBC iplayer issues is currently with the developers to try and resolve for us.

I tried 3.8.3 and was getting the -3 error and then switched to 3.7.1 and it logged on immediately. Funny enough had the same error when I installed it on my S4 phone? Dns settings are all on the router as well as blocking the public dns 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

Might be the way the DNS traffic is routed or your provider. I use Aptoid to update my apps and I'm on Netflix 3.8.3 3955 build on my MXIII using Unotelly from the Google Playstore, it's free for a week check if that makes the difference on your end. Nice thing it runs natively on the MXIII no PC required

I get a lot of 'stuttering' with Netflix. Every few minutes it would pause for a split second and resume. I've tried different versions of the app with the same results.
Anyone else experience this?

I tried a different isp and installed the aptoid version of Netflix but still nada.

I've managed to overcome the BBC iPlayer issue by using the tvplayer app which provides all the free to air UK channels ie BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 etc. You can get the APK via Aptoide
