The Droid TV thread

I had to dig deep for this one (cough, R6k, cough) :(
Spec wise, the Pi 2 is a lot weaker than the AML S802.

I have the ATV400, it was running Android 4.2.2 but just didn't like that.
Installed MXlinux running Kodi now and its far better, not perfect but better than Android and xbmc app.

For fun I setup an old PI with Openelec and it plays normal 1080p rips fine but go over 13gb in size and it struggles.
I heard the PI 2 can play blu ray rips over 40gb reading from one review.
I'm also after the perfect solution, plays everything flawlessly , fast interface, HQ audio most of my rips are well over 10gb in size and DTS.

I finally rage-quit on my DroidTV over the weekend.
When it works, it works great... fast, responsive, good feature set, acceptable picture quality, cool apps... BUT all the bitty little stupid issues were just starting to add up: endless audio problems (reported a few times in this thread), inability to run Kodi 14 without video bugging out, horrible wi-fi/ethernet connectivity... In themselves they're pretty minor but having to restart your movie because audio suddenly becomes garbled (even if it only takes 10s to do) just destroys the enjoyment for me.

So, my Plan B (there is no C or D) is to go with an Intel NUC running Kodi (or maybe OpenElec). I've ordered the i5 version, 4GB RAM with a 60GB SSD. It should be with me in the next day or so. If that doesn't give the seamless, perfect and totally awesome media-player experience I dream of, I don't know what else to try :)

Anyways, a big thank you to everyone on this thread who has provided help and assistance over the past few months.

I'll report back on my findings soon...

Hi HoruszA

Have you ever tried SPMC on your Droid?

Yup, running it at the moment.
It sorted out the random playback pauses, but the audio dropouts still persist.

Which video and audio codecs are causing this behavior?
Also new Kodi is released. Have you tried it?

Yes, tried it with various firmware versions. My experience is documented elsewhere in this thread. Basically video playback is completely broken... freezes, slow mo playback, no audio. Tried everything from factory wipes, clearing caches, etc.

Haven't seen a pattern when it comes to codec... mainly seems to affect DD and DTS (passthrough to receiver) but I've had it happen with stereo sound too.

BEST remote ever!
Control droid box, pc or Mac with your phone or tab!
Install server app on droid box or pc or Mac from website first then install client app from play store or iStore.
For droid control, let it auto locate the droid box.

I used to but its not without it short commings and damn expensive ...

@raind33r Which remote do you currently have?
I think it's the MX3 - was one that AVspply recommended, but not as expensive as the Mele.
But I watch with the lights off and NEED to see the darn buttons at night
Tough when the eyes start going:o

Got family flying in from Hong Kong in a few weeks....
What should I put on the wish list

@HorusZA

Sounds like you have a defective unit on hand - I havent seen this kind of behaviour appart from the video issue in XBMC as of you mentioned. Ok but then again I'm not a die hard XBMC user. I use optical out to my amp and it is a blast sound wise. I know SPMC is pretty neat also but its just plain strange that you have this hickup. I use MX Player mostly and 4K player on 112K4 custom Mediaman rom and I'm in love with the quality when the 24hz settings are enabled on my LG Smart TV. The Mediaman rom is the best IMHO and I enjoy it more than Finless or stock factory.

Damn dude ... not cool the issues that you are having.
