Agree... my MXIII registers as a Nexus 10. I guess that doesn't guarantee it will work though?

doubt its just that. DSTV or Multichoice are strict on any changes made ie Flashing of Roms etc, which is the very same reason my drifta wont work on a handset that has been flashed. You can understand some of the reasons though, but its just seems like a hard stance to take.

The Nexus 10 addition to the build prop was used for wider compatibility on Android Apps. DRM, widevine, HDCP, GMS is another ball park all together.
 
The DSTV Now problem on the mx3 is not linked to the box being rooted but rather that all mx3s having the same android device ID. We have confirmation that the first person who registered the box with dstv now has been able to use the application. The rest of us are getting the "device registered to another user" error.
 
I wonder where the application picks up the device ID ... Won't be the model, SOC, board or MAC as these can be "manipulated" ....

can the device ID not be changed somehow? eg if the device ID ends with 1, cant the 1 be changed to a 2?
