The DStv Walka experience

Thank you. Looks like ill have to travel about 250kms to reach the closest location.
 
Peeps are cheesed off with Monochoice / Game / other retailers over these DSTV devices that are being sold countrywide in places with no coverage. It's a monochoice / Game PR fail lol.
 
I wonder what the business plan around this is. is it a loss leader to get people to sign up for the DSTV premium package?
I would happily pay R36 to watch sports on my TV (not on a walka/drifta) but R500+ to occasionally watch a game? no thanks.

DVB-H coverage sucks

Unless u R in one of the major cities forget about good reception for your drifta/walka

Me too, but they are available in Game and Hi-Fi Corporation. I wonder how many people bought this and cannot use it.
 
The coverage in the cities is very good. In the places I have tested it wasn't necessary to use the aerial. Their transmitters are quite high power. At the moment mainly 586 MHz in the north and 530 MHz in the south.

It's excellent to keep an eye on sport at work or waiting in a queue at the bank.
 
Nobody got a comment about build quality now? Has it improved ? Someone told me it's free if you have a MTN contract? Can't find any info on the net, all seems to stop in Jan this year. Nothing on the MTN website either. I have a special dstv contract for R265 which is most good channels and all the sport.
 
Stuff the build quality.For R650 you can't expect a Blackberry Porsche.
Now the real question has reception improved?
