You mean to say RSA will be better off once the old people have died out.

Well, yes. The ANC trades on its past legacy and that overshadows what it does or does not do now. The fewer people we have remembering the old ANC the more people we'll have seeing the current ANC for what it is.

i actually know someone that voted for the VF+. because they are old, white, and won't vote for helen because "when i see her she's always hanging around some black person's neck"

i just shook my head and walked away. i guess you still get the reverse as well in the anc voters. pity some people still have these mindsets, and yes, we'll probably be stuck with them until they die off

Yep, that is true. South Africa's future lies in the next two to three generations. At that point race & past glories should start playing less and less of a role in voting decisions. Just have to hope that the ANC hasn't taken a giant dump on South Africa before then.

See, democracy only works when the old and dumb are ignored.

Lol, just saw the legend on the Elections website still states ID as a main province item. Last I recall the party was absorbed by the DA :)

Western Cape results: 762 of 1 578 voting districts counted, 809 746 valid votes, 7 182 spoilt, almost 73% turnout.

Western Cape vote update: DA 531 365 (67.7%); ANC 194 715 (24.8%); EFF 10 514 (1.34%)

The ANC is now approaching the 60% mark. I just hope the brakes come on at around 62/63%. Would be great if the DA can stay above 20% as well.

What is wrong with voting VF Plus?

Hmmm, judging on what I remember and looking at the past results, its going very similar to the last. Major changes are that the separatist COPE % seems to have now gone to EFF with COPE losing a significant number of votes. IFP has been split with NFP and IFP and DA still the strongest opposition.

Personally I would have liked to at least see COPE as it was and the EFF with its figures, both subtracting from the ANC majority. Looking at it now, it seems just that the previous COPE fickle voters have swung EFF way or back to ANC.

In our area most of the cope votes went to da...

This is how I see it. Let's say for argument sake I do agree with what the VF+ stand for, but even more so, hate what the ANC is doing to this country. Why would I vote for a party, who has no hope in hell to make any impact, if I can at least try and vote against the ANC by voting for their biggest opponent. Also, if the biggest opponent have proved what a big difference they can make, even if it is just in 1 province.

Why would I then vote for anybody but the DA?

I think he means more the attitude than the party.

I hope so because the VF plus is honestly not given enough credit, they're seen as the AWB of the political parties and there will definitely be a racist element among them but they really do fight hard to help poor Afrikaans people whether in law disputes or others. Really unfair to see them as the 'AWB' of parties or 'Eff is the left pole while VF plus is the right'. Comparing them to the insanity of EFF is insane, no VF plus policy goes out to harm people whilst eff policies clearly just rob a section of society.

Yeh, nothing wrong imo with the party. People just have to start using their brain when voting. Where is one's vote going to make the biggest possible impact? What is the first objective? -> Get the ANC out as the ruling party! By voting for the VF+ or any other small party you are wasting a vote imo. Better than not voting, but still not maximum impact.

Having smaller parties isn't a bad thing. They represent views and people that would otherwise get ignored. And any vote for one of the smaller parties is a vote that didn't go to the ANC.

If things go the way they look to be going, and the elections are free and fair, it's even more depressing that if it was rigged. It would mean people in this country genuinely aren't interested in having an accountable government.

Indeed. Seems like I just got the short end of the stick. Most of RSA seems quite happy with the ANC. All the marches and service delivery protests must have been isolated events.
