The Fuel Price Hike Thread

I don't bitch and moan that much about petrol prices but, there's always a point it reaches when shyte begins to hurt. From a business point of view, I don't generally worry about it too much but, sometimes it hits some sort of threshold where it becomes a problem and I have to pay attention to fuel consumption. I mean to a point where I have to plan routes and shyte and I have to restructure pricing and consider salary drops etc. It reached that point with the last fuel price hike. 50c p/l any time soon is going to hurt like a mofo. My opinion (for what it's worth)? We're in for a major recession. Brace yourselves.
 
Petrol price to drop by 5 cents

The retail price of all grades of petrol will drop by five cents a litre next week, the energy department said on Friday.

The price of diesel with 0.05 percent sulphur content would increase by 13.82 cents per litre wholesale, while diesel with 0.005 percent sulphur would increase by 14.82 cents per litre wholesale.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin would increase by 25 cents a litre.

The single maximum national retail price would increase by 33 cents a litre for illuminating paraffin.

The maximum retail price for LP Gas would increase by nine cents per kilogram.

"The average rand-US dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period," the department said in a statement.

"The weakening of the rand against the US dollar increased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin.

The increase would come into effect on September 4.

And then when the fuel price hikes next month I will be doing this all over again... Worst ever! :(
 
Got my first diesel car. Considering looking into biofuel. Think I should setup a test kit and see if i can make some biodiesel from cooking oil and later source some used oil from the takeaways in the area.

diesel cars uses less then petrol version normally , seems fair to me :P

im just glad its not increasing this month , so i can still make few trips before it goes up next month.

Diesel cars cost more, and require service more frequently. If you buy a BMW 320d it will take 200 000km before you make up for the higher price over the 320i which costs less at purchase and has higher consumption.

This, someone asked about buying a diesel Quantum, easily worked out that he would need to drive 150 000km just to cancel out the higher buying price.

Exactly. Not only this, the owner is probably financing the car and then paying more interest on a more expensive car over the loan term to save fuel. Stupid stupid stupid. Modern petrols turbos can easily get under 7L/100km on the highway and under 9L/100km in town if you don't "trap voet".

Exactly. Not only this, the owner is probably financing the car and then paying more interest on a more expensive car over the loan term to save fuel. Stupid stupid stupid. Modern petrols turbos can easily get under 7L/100km on the highway and under 9L/100km in town if you don't "trap voet".

Doesn't affect me. I only put in R300 regardless.. :)
But seriously, I'm starting my cycle commute from middle this month sometime, as soon as the freezing cold would disperse.
 
Fuel price decrease welcomed

CAPE TOWN – The Cape Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the latest fuel price decrease will bring much needed relief to businesses.

The Department of Energy has announced a petrol price drop of between 19 and 20 cents a litre, depending on the grade.

Diesel will decrease by 2 cents a litre.

The chamber's Viola Manuel says that in general, this will be good for businesses.

“It’s a very difficult time in the economy to run a business so we are relieved to hear of the announcement about the decrease in the petrol price. We’re anticipating a boost in economic activity.”

Oh what I would give for a 20c decrease... We're getting 2c, us wonderful Diesel users..... I am going to be rolling in all the money I save with that decrease.

Be careful you do not brew some fuel that is of such a quality that it will cause injector damage. Injectors are the main reason why I am staying away from diesels :(
