Just found a builder, he is renovating flat next door and completed another one recently. He pointed out all the improvements others have done and the known challenges.

I'm just painting and ceiling is going to take three coats to get rid of the nicotine stains 16401668008905657860278363134724.jpg

Nicotine stains are the worst. I remember being forced to paint my mom and stepdads room as a teenager.
My stepdad used to smoke a couple of packets of texan cigs a day, a lot of them were in bed.

His side of the bed was yellow, and he still bought the cheapest paint known to man. Took many coats to get rid of it.

I ran out of paint this afternoon, bought another 5L and used that up.

If the next 5L does not work then I'm going to use Bulls eye 1-2-3, that stuff is like road paint.

Where were you in the '30s?

Use a vintage window hook on a long pole:

And a window latch like this (preferably in brass for authenticity):

Works very well, I remember when I was in Grade one, our classroom had very high windows and the boys used to fight about who gets to open and close them.

Nicotine tar = extra waterproofing, see the bright side of things.

This came up on my facebook feed. Such a simple contraption but it seems quite handy.

I'm sure you folks will probably make your own version at the fraction of the cost lol
That looks suspiciously a lot like the contraption that my dad made a few years ago and sold to the local hardware stores to resell down in Ndlambe. I see these people are also based in the EC:unsure:

anyone done something like a pond?

I dug a hole for our submersible pump and filled it with concrete mix and now I want to waterproof it

is that a.b.e. stuff right?

@Other Pineapple Smurf is that just a concrete stoep? which paint do you plan to use and what process?

Anyone know where I can find these wheels.. sliding doors packing up, wheels all jammed and on their last legs. The wheels are pretty wide and seem heavy duty, they roll on a track that is as wide as your index finger. Only wheels I can locate are in hardware stores and they're baby thin things.

They fit into a sliding door that needs the frame to be separated to change them out.. crazy stupid design.

any bitumen product will need to be repainted in about 6 months, they do peel.. but they do work for a while. If you want something forever, I guess just fiberglass it or something :(

Find an aluminium installer store. Those are better grade than "contractors" doors and often referred to as high traffic grade.

We have the better grade sliding door here at home for my wife's home based business.

Edit: our door is the "superior" 60mm stile from Swartland.

is the concrete already rough?

I would like to paint our floor, but I don't want a slippery smooth surface

@ricardo12 I don't mind doing that, depending on how much I need to use

The stoep paint will smooth out small imperfections but I've never found it slippery.

Showroom floor paint is similar and two part epoxy paint.

All these paint surfaces can get waxed.

thanks....

I was actually wondering if they had something and if I could score it at local Dreiers/Builders

saw it this morning so think this will do

new year's project for now though as I need to focus on finishing 1 thing at a time these days, instead of moving all over the place :(
