Storms are brewing in Jhb, which ultimately means I’m about to discover a whole host of new leaks especially on balconies. Anyone dealt with waterproofing leaky balconies, diagnostics and resolution?
This worked at the beach house stoep/balcony that's on top of the garages.

Thanks, think I might do the same.

Did you find anything natural looking that doesn't need sealing, those shiney ones won't look good with what I'm planning.
Yeah apart from not looking good, those shiny ones could also be hazardous.

Just going through my pics now and I think we went with this from CTM. The texture is just rough enough that is not a danger, but smooth enough to still be comfortable to stand on...

My heavy has those pebbles in his shower. He hates them. Says they feel horrible under your feet. My 2c
Thank for the info, luckily I haven't bought them yet.

That's exactly what I'm looking for, the colour is nice too. Will swing past CTM tomorrow

Does anybody have those pebble mosaics in their shower? What are they like to stand on?

One downside is the lady at Union Tiles recommends sealing them because they're natural stone but I'm not really up for maintenance in a shower so might look at these flat ones

Don't do it.

We have them in the main bedroom shower. When the dirt is packed all over them, its a mission to clean. By now I guess we have completely messed up the sealant on them with the amount of times we just use the steamcleaner to loosen the dirt.

They obviously feel weird to some people. My wife hates them. I am ok with how it feels but the dirt is terrible.

That sounds horrible, I didn't think about trying to clean them. Thanks for the feedback, will see what CTM have that doesn't need sealing.

I have these in my shower. Previous owner put them in and I really dislike them. It's definitly on my to do list to have replaced when we finally redo the bathrooms.
They are a pain to keep clean (more grout than what a standard tile has) and they don't have the best feeling under foot.
That's my take on them anyways

Thanks for this. It seems they aren't really practical although I think they look nice.

So, you've got bathroom renos to look forward to :D?

Yes, but I'm im denial about it at the moment. Won't happen soon.
Wife on the other hand has recently decided she wants to enclose the patio...

Hugely delayed response, yes I do have those in the one shower in my house, they're perfectly fine to stand on and I honestly have never "sealed" them, but then I have had to regrout a few sections over the years.

Next random observation, how do you guys not absolutely lose your rag with your SO's during renovations?

Redoing the one bathroom now, and I'm ready to kill my SO because everything must happen all at once with zero thought given to any proper ordering of work.

I told mine that her part would be to help pick stuff out. That's the bit they enjoy anyway.

If she wants it done properly, she needs to leave me and the contractor to it. Otherwise no moaning when things break...

Guess I'm lucky, we did a big renovation project and myself and the SO never even had a fight about it  One thing that did annoy me though is she's very pedantic over the weirdest things; she wouldn't care if the tiles were incorrectly aligned or something but it's a big 'gedoente' if the shower door leaves one drop of water...

I clearly have the worst of both worlds then.;.. oh and a missus with expensive tastes cos everything needs to be custom :P

My SO is a project manager in the construction industry so no issues like that. She will also crap on the contractors for not doing things properly while I'm not there which is helpful.

you mean the impeller?

just turn off the pump, open the lid, take out the inner basket and stick your fingers in there and try spin the impeller.

I divorced mine, but back then she also wanted a lot of **** done that I have never gotten around to. It was kak ideas anyway. I have a feeling I am more nitty gritty and full of **** when it comes to the detail work anyway.

Like they are busy painting my house now and I checked the fsckers started off laying splash sheets and towards the end, they left it. I make them clean every speck of paint they mess with the pointed end of a Stanley blade around the whole house. Fsck em. I am yet to do a full inspection, keep putting it off as I know how vol kak I am.

As an aside story. I am getting ready to change the color of this wall. Make it like a feature wall. Will post after pics soon.
