What am I missing with my pool..? Algae is growing despite test strips indicating balanced chemicals, chlorine even on the high side.. pump is running every day..

You may have chlorine lock going on...
That's going to be no good.. I have not been adding any additional stabiliser over and above what may be present in the hth floater, which is also the recommended size, maybe even too small for my pool, so I do add a scoop of chlorine granules as needed..

Guess I will send to waste some of the water and top up..

You should be able to take some water to a pool shop to get them to check, I think..

but yeah, from what I know, the only real solution to Chlorine lock is drain 1/4 of the pool and then top up to break the chemical imbalance.

Anyone know an online site that has a seamless gutter quotation estimate? I found https://rainflowsa.co.za/pricing-calculator/, but not sure how up-to-date it is.

We have about 50m of gutters, round about 9 down pipes, and 7 corners - which puts the price at 10,500 ex vat.

Only doing it next year - after painting the house - so not interested in a formal quote.

Not sure on online estimate but my quote came to just over R25k for 110m
- 11 downpipes
- 11 corners
- 2 hopper boxes

They were the shady bunch whose work left some to be desired. The new guy who came through to finish was pretty good - once you’re ready I can share his details - and was going to come in at a lower price.

I would never again get the small surface, rippled downpipes, in a leafy surrounding again. The leafs congest in the top rippled bends and clogs the pipes.

The old round pipes with soldered end pieces are still the best. The way of fitting the downpipes to the gutter must also be observed, as many contractors leave sharp edges where they fold over the endings inside the gutter and glue them with silicon sealer.

I don't know if I make any sense in the last part of my post.;)

Progress Gutters attached ours so far under the tiles that water misses them and flows like a waterfall over them onto the ground.

Anyone know of a store in Cape Town that stocks these polycarbonate sheets: https://leroymerlin.co.za/clear-polycarbonate-multiwall-sheet-t5mm-x-w1000mm-x-l2000mm-81457527

No Leroy Jenkins in Cape Town.

Builders warehouse I have seen stock the white version, have not specifically paid attention for the clear..
Hmm, I looked there last weekend but couldn't find any. It doesn't need to be clear, white would be fine also.

Do you by any chance know what they call this specifically?

It's called correx.. checked builders website, see all stores in CPT are out of stock..

I will leave the Google search for you..

You can also try Duro Plastics in Brackenfell.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I've got a thatch lapa in the backyard, and since it hasn't been used in a while, there are quite a lot of spiders & wasps in it. What would be the best way to get rid of the bugs, besides burning it down?

Phone America and ask for a drone fly over.

2 defoggers over the weekend - keep the windows and doors closed for a couple of days. Vent for a couple of days and clean up the mess :)
