Don’t waste your time with this. Opening and closing the filter all the time. It’s impossible to clean these blocks properly.
Was just putting it out there because the discussion was about that. I still run sand. Cleaning it doesn't bother me, the pool guy will do it...
Do you have a specific product you could recommend? I will probably replace the filter media next weekend but would like to check this glass media out first.

If this is in Gauteng, then we were duped by same company. It was 6-7 years ago and don't remember the name off-hand but MO sounds familiar. Do they have a small likable guy who visited you for marketing/sales and later on a heavy built guy who comes on this ranger bakkie ?
Bubble mats work well in that they keep the light out of the pool, which hinders algae growth. They also stop the sunlight from depleting your chlorine, which means less stabiliser. You need to be careful of chlorine lock, as your floaters could be contributing to that. I’d go for bubble mat, non stabilised floaters and your shockers will kill the algae. Make sure your chemistry is right too and you might what to up the ph initially
If you're using that many chemicals its probably in your interest to change to a salt water pool and/ or get a chlorinator. I changed to a salt water pool and I have not struggled with green pools after rain since. My next step when finances allow is to get a decent chlorinator and then I should be using minimal chemicals in my pool. And salt is cheap.
Yeah, salt is a game changer for sure. Also you don’t get chalk build up from granular chlorine. Mine is minimal effort; every two weeks de-calcify the electrode and every 6 months dump 50kg salt in. The water feels great.
Do you manually de-calcify the electrode? The one I'm looking at has an automatic de-calcify mode where you basically just check the electrode every six months or something.
I had my automatic unit converted to manual. The lifespan of the automatic ones is short due to the reversing of the polarity process. My pool tech did the conversion (can give you his shop name if you're CT-based; he's the best). Yes, so I manually do it, just use 1:10 acid/water mix in a half cut coke bottle. Super simple, screw it off and leave it for 5 minutes. All done. Pump-wise I run for about 3 hours a day in summer. Winter around 1 hour a day. Your chlorinator needs to be showing around 75% at middle setting, so you know your pool has enough salt. Sometimes I add an unstabilised floater to the pool if my chlorine levels are lower than I'd like I.E. summertime when the sun's beating and the cover is off all the time.
100k. How long is a piece of string though, depends on your pump size etc. find the right pump time by measuring your chlorine levels over time. When salt is maintained correctly you pump more when it drops, less when it’s too high. Work out the median.
I've got a Plascon 20l half full that I've had for about 6 years now, after we painted the house and boundary walls. Still seems OK as it's sealed well. I have to stir it very well for before doing odd touch-ups every so often.
