Replaced the basin taps in the 2 bathrooms, one straight forward and easy the other the taps were fastened so thight because the rubber was worn off and the taps were always moving . I was scared the braided pipes would eventually break off as the setup was 12yrs old at least. The shut off valves were also shot.
HTF do they design those spanners and holes to tighten/losen the taps.

Eventually got it sorted but what a mission. (can't find the "the things that irritate you" thread.)
 
Chaps I need this gate replaced. The pillar as well as it is wobbly. It is about 1.35m wide. I was hoping to replace both gate and pillar with one large gate but my usual guy for these types of things wants to build a gate + panel where the pillar is out of galvanized steel and nutec at just under R9k fitted.

How's that suggestion and price? Anyone know of other companies to try? Located in CT.

That is ridiculously expensive.
 
Is this just a gimmick or does it actually work? I have 18V B&D tool/batteries already so am considering it as I don't have massive lawns.

Seems to have the same effect as oxalic acid. I have quite a large balau deck, even after removing half the thing. Used to maintain by sanding (this broke me each and every time) and using Woodoc deck dressing but it never looked great. After a lot of research I've switched to cleaning with a high pressure hose every few months, a quick clean with oxygen bleach followed by applying a boiled linseed oil/turps mix. Made my life so much easier and the deck looks great! If the deck ever goes a bit grey or weathered, a quick application of oxalic acid has it looking like new.
 
I messaged the Croud in Pretoria, no reply, so I doubt they are still in business, but thanks for the name of the product you're using. I will try find it and use that the next time my deck starts greying. I agree tho, the High pressure hose is just so much less of a ballache. I am using LOba Deck and teak transparent oil for mine. Cheers.

Can you elaborate on the Acid. How do you make it up? apply, etc?

I have a different brand but it is cordless too. It's convenient but the power just isn't there, bogs down with longer grass - I have around 20m2 of lawn at the moment and it does the job with a little more effort. It's lighter than your usual grass cutters and slightly quieter

So there are two options - you can either buy it from a hardware store but not many seem to stock it. BuildIt sometimes have stock though. It comes in crystal form and you mix about half a cup of crystals to 1litre of warm water. The simpler and much more readily available option is to buy Woodoc wood reviver, which is a container that contains the oxalic crystals as well as gloves, a scrubing brush, and stirring paddle. I just use one of those brooms with hard bristles to scrub it in. If you google the product I seem to recall they have videos showing what it does to weathered grey wood - much the same as that one shot product :)

Edit: just to confirm - the oxygen bleach is for cleaning and the oxalic acid is for brightening/restoring grey weathered wood.
 
Hi guys, looking to put down some lvt / laminate over my wooden floors (they mark far too easily). Are there any suggestions of good suppliers in the WC Southourn suburbs side? Went to flooring warehouse today and whilst they had a large selection they weren't even interested in talking to me so I left.

Also anyone laid it themselves, how difficult / tricky is it?
 
Why the hell do I always struggle with drilling holes?

Example, I drill basic 8mm holes for 8mm anchors and screws, but somehow, they are always loose, so when I test the weight of the shelf, they all come out, or, the alternative is that the hole is not deep enough and I can't drive the screw all the way in (please refrain from any sexual innuendo:) )

Is it the quality of bricks in my home or am I being a complete idiot?
 
What are my options for pool heating?

Roof space is taken up by solar panels so can't go with solar heating.

It's the only other option a heat pump? And what's the power consumption like on these?
