Thanks, will buy a box next time. Seems they have a bit of a thread, which might help in anchoring, as opposed to the knock-in one's.

I even measured a few with a vernier, and compared it to the drill bit, they are always pretty much within spec. But I'm sure there have been a few bad batches ;)

My neighbor has one of those creeping plants that grow dat die kak spat on the other side of the wall. I suspect his side of the wall is completely fscked by that plant. So all the moisture keeps on coming through the wall and making bubbles on my side, sort of like a rising damp problem.

All the holes we drilled the material coming out was wet. the vent plugs are cheap enough to try. If they don't work so be it.

Lawn reno also coming along nicely.

Hi ..Can you confirm if these damp vent plugs actually worked ?

In all honesty, unless you are buying some really crappy, no name branded plugs from some random corner hardware store or from China town, plugs are not the issue.. I use eureka plugs, builders plugs, Fischer plugs and get the same great results with all of them..

I suspect that, you are not holding the drill steady when drilling, the bit wanders and the hole then goes bigger despite using the recommended bit size for your plug.. you are using the cheap kind of masonry bits.. I use alpen branded bits.. certainly not the end all and be all, but value for money for the quality they produce.. their masonry bits are great, so I would recommend you pick a set of good quality masonry bits, whether it's alpen or something else.. and no, those Bosch sets and other brands, that include drill bits and screw tips etc, don't have good masonry bits..

Lastly, get yourself a set of sharp ended punches.. mark your hole location, use a punch to make a little dimple where your hole is going to go.. this helps to prevent the bit from walking, which can also lead to larger holes then you need, when you are pushing the drill bit back and forth to get it back to the hole location..
 
Everything @WAslayer has said, but I bought a full size masonry drill set and use a drill 1mm or so smaller than they recommend and then they usually fit snugly, if not then I run the same drill in and out a few times again just to open the hole a bit.

Works for me with any kind of plug or rawl bolt.

It is cheap enough to try and see if it works. The amount of wet/moist dirt that came out of the drilled holes tells me it should work.
 
Wellpoint question:

Finally managed to locate original well point source on my new property.. two points..

Got a dab jet 102 pump connected up and I am getting what I think might be good flow, not sure..

Question is, how do I keep the pump primed between switching on and off..? It's not self priming from what I can tell..

Fit a spring-loaded non-return valve on the suction side and make sure there are no air leaks in the pipes.
The flap type non-return valves often have a slow backflow leak.

Air leaks I haven't checked for just yet, was rushed to get to other responsibilities and just managed to get enough time to check the well points are still open and have water..
 
Howzit, looking for the pool pump diy'ers. Mine (the quality brand) has developed a leak from the bottom which I'm lead to believe is the mechanical seal. So I've disconnected it and split the pump from the housing. The problem im having is i cant seem to spin off the impeller even while holding the shaft at the fan end. The impeller just freewheels. Added a couple pics for clarity. Anyone dealt with this before who can offer some advice?

Cut as short as possible, then I used a scarifier to remove all the thatch. After that, I aerated with a spike roller. Then overseeded with Kikuyu seeds. On top of that, I put lawn dressing over the whole lawn. On top of that, I put Greensulf 35 fertilizer. Then water, lots of it.

I also used NC32 t give it another boost. Was mowing 3-4 times a week.

Thank you. Here is another before and after. I was busy repainting and doing maintenance on the house thats why i left the grass to get to such a state. Will try and keep it green whole year now.

Finally getting to garage ceiling. Cleared out ceiling during the holiday the guy that does out building will be popping in "foil insulation" and ceiling board almost against the tiles on the brandering etc. So the garage should be nice and "finished off" in the next week or so.

Side walls to be painted etc too. Wires to be sorted too
