For those who may know.. I am in CPT and need to get a covered braai area up.. I know the CoCT is going to want plans, no problem will get those done.. however, I have been reading that some things require at least oversight from a professional and I want to do the work myself here.. would I need a professional here to oversee..?

Additional context, if it helps: the area I want covered already has a pergola structure which I can use.. I would need to replace the beams, however, as they are rotten.. the beams already tie onto the house on one side and two wooden posts with a beam spanning between them.. this beam and two posts are treated and in great condition still.. technically, I just need new beams to cover between the house and roof and drop some roof sheets over that.. also, the pergola structure is not on the plan currently..

They made my neighbour across the road jump through hoops. He eventually did something else.

For his outdoor covered braai, he had to get permission from neighbours around him, including me across the road... Then they wanted some sort of BS environment thing, etc.

I was going to do the same, but decided on just doing a small outdoor drag around braai, and keep the rest to my inside braai.
 
How long are pool safety covers meant to last? We bought one in 2019.07 - its shot - the material has started tearing.

Was about to order another one - was going to order from Power Plastics - for R10k - and then noticed this:

I know all my neighbours, so that part wouldn't be an issue.. I have time before I actually am able to do the work, so can jump through whatever hoops..

Unfortunately nothing lasts in the sun..

If your pool is small enough, I would say get a waterproof tarpaulin to throw over the pool cover and keep it out of the sun.. fortunately they are not expensive..

I bought from an on-line shop in 2018. Still going strong. They were about 50% of the price of others. Will see whether I can find them.

Edit: Quick search of my email found them.

Not sure if Im not searching correctly but they only sell the thermal covers and accessories for it and not safety covers?
 
Unrealted to my previous water proofing question - what is the purpose of silver paint they do after torch on? My neighbour did her roof recently, and I noticed they left it black

Related to my previous waterproofing post - this is how I'd expect the torch on - or various other water proofing products to be applied, but - all the companies said no. (pic from a facebook ad that appeared today)

Pretty certain its to protect the torched on stuff to last longer. Sadly only 2-3 years with this silver paint on. Maybe it does come in more than one color though?

Sun damage.. eventually the UV will cause it to dry and perish..

However, you are supposed to be maintaining that silver paint throughout the years too..

Is plumblink.co.za a reputable company? Is there anything I should know before parting with my hard-earned money?
 
Advice needed plumbing issue.

So I was summoned to my 95yr old aunt's house, since I'm her designated handiman, regarding raising damp on the passage wall outside the bathroom.

Turns out the shower drain in her shower no longer seals around the tiles and water is draining out through the gap.

Is there a way to reseal this gap without chopping tiles or having to install a new shower drain?
