R300 is bad but R400 is ridiculous. Can't you put the leaves into black bags and squeeze them into the wheelie bin? One or two bags a week.

OT. Just remembered. There was an old guy who charged R150 to take our garden refuse. We used him a few times and one day he arrived with a second man. The first guy sat on a rock while his assistant loaded the bakkie then they charged R300 (because there were 2 people you see).

We paid the R300, then told him he was too expensive and never to come back.

Thats what I did over a month to get rid of much refuse

Was discussing this with the trustees now now, we are going to buy a 5th black 210l wheely bin at Builders for R599 and see if the refuse truck takes with the other 4 we already have. Doubt the refuse crew give a crap of how many bins they are emptying each time, we shall see. Thanx

I've found the refuse guys refuse (see what I did there) to empty bins with garden waste. I hide a bag or two between the normal bags (never on top) and then they take them.

Also, composting your garden refuse is a productive way to deal with it.

Excellent idea, unfortunately no one in the complex gives a damn about the gardens and stuff related to that, there is no initiative to do any composting. But I like the idea of the black bag with garden refuse
 
How do the truck drivers or bin crew guys remember how many 210l wheely bins there are per household? If I snuck a 5th one in do you think they will notice? Apologies for derailing this thread with this
 
If I remember correctly you are in Cape Town? The bins look different, so they won't touch ones that are not issued by CoCT. We have 4 at work plus the odd one out.
 
Question...

We have a swing that is (normally) connected between the tree and a wall.
It was fine for a couple of years, but then with some strong wind the tree tore off the pole.

The new wall bracket I think is much stiffer, so now it falls off after a couple of weeks. (we are in claremont so not crazy windy). Last time I put some black bags on the tree end hoping it would slip rather than pull the pole out of the wall. But today I am sitting here pole on the floor... No luck.

Any other bright ideas? Else I'll have to go for an a frame one side?

Just do the A frame on the tree side.. if the tree was older and you were mounting to the actual trunk, there would be a lot less movement and would be okay, but that tree looks far too young for the trunk to not be moving in the wind..

Thanks. Yes you are probably right, it did work for 3 years, but then it tore off the bracket one day and the new bracket is just stiffer so no give. Was hoping there was some way for it to slip through the tree more so it's loose

Closer up of the trunk/ where it used to be wedged. See I don't actually need to secure it to the tree

We use Garden Buddy, R130 per month and they come empty a 210l steel drum once a week.

This is very useful info, wont cover my area but i know a 20yr old kid looking at making extra pocket money so will show him this for him to maybe start up doing this for our area. Very good price this, thank you

That's not bad - I bin mine, but - I've had the city leave it once or twice because of whats in it. Rather annoying because soft garden waste is listed as acceptable on the city site.
