There is basically just one place in SA that manufacture the uPVC stuff, they somewhere in Somerset west. I had a few installed, and then when I had my regular contractor over for some more renovations, he also knew about the factory. Serves me right for not just asking them to do everything as I should, because they always do 100% work on all the other types of renovations I had done.
We used Cape PVC Windows. Work is ok, we had a bunch of issues initially. Took them a long time to come back, but eventually they did. The uPVC door, was basically useless, as it couldn't close properly. As in, could close, but you had to walk around and push the last bit in before you can lock from the inside. (You will understand once you have one of these). Anyways, 6 months later they did come back (without nagging from us), and turns out it was a manufacturing fault. They took of the door and came back later the same day and from then onward it just works.
The one window, using a slide and tilt mechanism (very nice when it works), there was a small issue, but if I just knew how these things work I could sort it out myself. Small issue with one pin not locked in at the top. He showed me and well next time if something like this happen, I can diy it. However, it very quickly made me not trust the tilt function as safe against breakins. If thieves know how these work, I think they will find a way in, regardless of what the installer tells me. They did do maintenance for us again and sorted this out too.
Anyways, their work is clean, but sometimes if the main German don't follow up on his guy's works there are sometimes small things forgotten. However when we ask him when checking ourselves, there usually no issue to get it sorted out.
