The how to lose weight thread

Ok so i'd like to go on another diet.I'm not overweight by any extent but i just want to get back to having a flat stomach. No six pack ripped abs (that's dreaming) but just no boep.

I don't know...can you guys advice me. Let me first break down what i eat in a normal day.
Breakfast - 2 Weetbix (with sugar and some syrup, not alot just to give some taste)
Lunch - 2 slices of Low Gi bread with some jam spread,1 apple,1 pear and 5 provitas.
Dinner - 2 minute noodles.2 minute noodles.2 minute moodles :P

Ok so i definetely know i don't consume as much food as most ppl but i just can't seem to be losing weight.During the WC i ate like a crazy ravenous beast and Mcdonalds was my all too often.
I just don't get it how ive completely cut out junk food and nonsense food for a month and ive actually put on 2 kgs?!

Please can i get some advice :D

There's the problem right there!...And nogal at night...eat as much as you want in the morning...a little less at lunch and very little(small portions) at night...coz you use most of your energy during the day, its only right to feed your body the neccessary energy resources it needs during the day, at night, you finish eat, watch tv or whatever you do, and then sleep for 8 hours till its morning again...all of us eat TOO much at night...

I'm no dietary expert, but your diet seems to be full of fibre and carbs and very few vegetables or proteins. Why-oh-why have 2-minute noodles for dinner???? That's frightening. I'd go for tuna salads, or fresh veggies. Try to make up half of your lunch and dinner meals of fruit and/or veg. Learn to love green beans, peas, carrots, butternut, pumpkin, squash, cauliflower, sprouts, broccoli, brown rice, lentils, sugar beans, cabbage, spinach etc etc

Perhaps cut down on the sugar + syrup on the b/fast - those tend to be high on the GI list, causing you to feel hungry sooner. Do you drink enough water? Anything from 6 or 8 glasses per day to dividing your weight by 10 and drinking that many glasses of water (I include cups of tea in that).

What about the exercise aspect? I'm pretty lazy, but found that washing the car every weekend (myself, ninny!) and going for a brisk 3km walk regularly, helped me immensely. Physical activities also do wonders for the stress relief. Digging in the garden, cleaning the house, volunteering can all provide free exercise :-)

It comes down to your personal situation, but find simple ways to lead a healthier lifestyle and it becomes easier to keep your weight under control.

Not surprised with that approach. No offense, but basically everything you've got there is wrong. Way to much carbohydrates & sugars.

Lose the weetbox & replace with rolled oats. Also carbs, but lower GI. You'll need to put something on them to make it edible. I'd recommend 1x sliced apple, small amount yoghurt, small amount 2% milk.

Lunch should be entirely salad. Make it big & colourful. I'd recommend Salad + half tin butterbeans + cheese + cucumber + Pepper + olive oil, but that personal pref.

Dinner: Large amounts of vegetables. Some meat. Minimal carbs (Rice if you must).

On the whole, the trick is to replace it with things that make you feel full but that are not loaded with energy. So carbs & fruit are bad. Vegetables good. Protein OK-ish.

And Alfa is right, those noodles are epic fail for weight loss.

when trying to lose weight try to stay away from bread rather eat a piece of chicken and some brown rice for lunch.

for breakfast replace the weetbix with oats, a chopped banana and some honey for sweetness.

for dinner lose the noodles as they are full of carbs and rather eat fish with lots of veggies at night.

Rolled oats is disgusting.

I do not think the issue is when he eats the pasta. Apparently, eating (whatever food) at night is no worse (or better) than eating that same thing during the day.

cheers for the great advice guys!

so basically i must stay away from 2 minute noodles completely  i thought they were high in fibre which is good for digestion.my biggest issue is my metabolism is damn slow.

i should replace chicken with bread for example.seriously...i would do that EVERY Day but doesnt Low gi bread have less calories than a piece of chicken? how must the chicken be cooked preferably.
I will start munching away on the veggies. Are boiled frozen veggies like McCain good enough or should it be raw vegetables rather?

ALSO...for that 'night time' hunger attack..is there anything i can just shovel down my throat to kill that ? are provitas bad

again thanks for the swell advice :)

You must try this: x1 2min noodles, packet of mushroom sauce, x1 tuna and x1 tin smoked mussels.

Swap your syrup and sugar for honey :D

Hmm well maybe you consume 2 many carbohydrates  Not sure? Try swap your fruit for veg ;) (fruit=fructose).

I have started eating low fat plain yogurt with honey and pieces of banana. Not sure if its low fat but tastes awesome

yeah i will try the honey and yoghurt :) i used to be a heavy coke and fizzy drinker.i swopped that for fruit juice and now im addicted to that :| is there something besides water that one can drink that isn't full of sugar?!

So lets get this straight. From now on it should be a little something like :
Breakfast - Oats (is Jungle oats fine with a dash of sugar)?
Lunch - Tuna Salad or just a nice mixed salad.is there something i can compliment with the salad that isnt heavy.,,,?
Dinner - Fish and veggies or just veggies straight up.

Any tips for the snack attack :D >?

That looks way better than the previous routine! Just try and keep things balanced. Too much in one direction means you're probably depriving yourself of something else.

For snacking, either a few nuts, or some fresh or dried fruit. I've heard that dried fruit tends to be higher in sugars, but they're certainly better than snacking on sweets, chips or hamburgers :D

Try diluting your fruit juice with 25% water, which is better than having juice as-is.

Continue your lifestyle as you feel comfortable, try to stick to the healthy options, but avoid binge-ing on the bad stuff. Don't forget to do a few hours of physical activity per week, anything that raises your heart rate and gives the muscles some workout (within reason!). And a weekly treat is good for you too.

Not sure why this thread is so long.... the simple answer is EXERCISE! Screw these diets and supplements and pills and crap! Burn off enough calories and it won't matter what you eat.

@Positively Negative...mate...changing your intake SO drastically will ONLY set you up for disaster from the get go...sorry to be the pain here but, you are planning on changing your dietry routine if we can call it that very drastically...start by just eatin less of whatever you ate, if you used to eat 4 slices of bread a day, eat two, start by lwering your carb intake, have carbs at least in ONE of your 6 meals if you will...preferably at breakfast so that it can sustain you throughout the day. Snack on Nuts or fruit...Drink water and eat when you're hungry! No matter when...if youre hungry at 11pm, eat bra! BUT...big but...what you eat at that time is hella important! Its all about waht you eat and the portions...go speak to anyone who JUST changed their eating pattern and what they ate...the weight will eventualy drop off and YOU"LL be regular and be healthy, losing LOTSA weight in 2 months is insane...healthy weight loss is simething like 3-5kg's per month I think...just by eating right. That special K diet...They always flaunt it here in Summer time...coz in March you'll have gained the weight back again as you return to eating like a normal person!

Who here...can eat VEGIES ONLY every night of their life? No one! Just lesson your intake and cut the carbs...sugar/bread/fizzy drinks/juice/rice(get brown rice)/spagetti/noorrrles/pastry/cheese...obviously, if you simply CANNOT live without these carbs...then eat them...but in MODERATION because as silly as it sounds, your body needs carbs too..someone's gotta give love to the carbs!

Breakfast - 2 Weetbix (with sugar and some syrup, not alot just to give some taste)
I would instead get a Protein powder (Whey) for taste
Lunch - 2 slices of Low Gi bread with some jam spread,1 apple,1 pear and 5 provitas.
Eat the apple or Pear as a midmorning snack (between breakfast and lunch)
Get low sugar jam (diabetic) and also add peanut butter for protein
Dinner - 2 minute noodles.2 minute noodles.2 minute moodles :P
Sheesh... you need to eat a proper supper maybe a tuna salad etc. or add some veggies to the noodles atleast.

Also get some exercise .. cardio or weights.

I have been on the "Dr Cohan" diet for 6 weeks, and i have lost 16Kg's and 41cm, When you reach your goal weight, they provide a refeed program to help you get back to normal foods..
After that its all about maintenance

Easier-said-than-done? :)

I stand by what folks like Alfa said: just try to balance your diet a little more and find ways to include a regular exercise routine, rather than making some major, dramatic changes to your routine. Losing 10kg in a month is harder to sustain than gradually losing 3-5kg per month over 3 months. If you can keep to the routine, it should become a long-term change in your lifestyle.

ok thanks to all the great advice here i am going to try shed my boep slowly but surely!

just a few more tips please.I have cut out fruit juice completely.I can't just drink 19 glasses of water a day...i get queezy with water sometimes...im not sure why.Is energade a better replacement than Liqui Fruit that ive been drinking for ages now. Also i got some of those flavoured waters? Whats the deal with them. Are they still a no no even if they are preservative free?

Um is weet bix really not ideal for breakfast? Can i possibly try some muesli or is that also pointless.

p.s - i never knew Tuna prices were R10 a tin...yoh.

Don't cut anything out of your diet. Moderation is the key PLUS good exercise every day. Walk and walk and walk everywhere.
Another tip: don't eat any food that has been processed. Think before you put it into your mouth (or buy it at the supermarket!) - if it's not straight from the farm then don't buy it, don't fry it! Eat butter, not margarine. Drink fullcream milk as opposed to 2% or non-fat milk (the fats have just been replaced by sugars). ALL diet foods have been processed so don't even think about buying them. Eat fruit, meat, veges and eggs which are organic if you possibly can. Good luck.

Energade has lots of sugar added IIRC. I'd rather dilute Liqui-fruit with 25% water and enjoy that.
