I need some advice please, My son has Telkom LTE with the Huawei Lte CPE B593 modem and he is in a Telkom coverage area but only get 2 bars but very fast speeds. I am not in a Telkom Lte coverage area but pluged his modem in and get 4 bars and fast speeds but havent done a real speed test yet. So now I went to Telkom to buy this unit and the sales person/ manager says to me that if you dont get 5 bars or full strength then its not Lte and if I buy this product its on my own risk with no technical back up, ok so after all this my question is...how do you know you are on Lte?

I don't live in an LTE area, so I use my B593 exclusively on 3G, and I am able to get about 12 - 14 Mbps on 3G. The B593 is a great device whether you live in an LTE area or not.
Ill informed sales person. (5Bars) If you log in the modem will tell you as Bundu pointed out. From the outside looking at all the LED's if they cyan (blue) of colour it is LTE.
You need to do some speed test.

as also pointed out, if the light to the left of the bars is blue, it's 4G, provided the Network mode is set to 4G or AUTO
to get the screen I showed you, you need to go to http://192.168.1.1/ or http://homerouter.cpe/ and enter the username and password - IIRC originally admin admin
Hi all. I have posted in the Poynting antenna thread, but no reaction there yet. Scenario ass follows. I have the Telkom LTE setup at home. Always had only 1 bar. Average 20 down and 1 or less up. Ping in the 30s. Bought XPOL 0002 V2 antenna. Currently in roof and getting 3 bars. Sometime 4 bars. Now, the download speed now varies around 10 and upload increased to 2-4. Ping now in 40s. Before I now do extensive testing by repositioning the antenna and comparing with and without antenna etc, IS IT at all possible that the download speed can actually reduce, whilst the signal went from 1 bar to 3 bars on the H router? So, is such a scenario technically possible?
Do you LOS to a nearby tower?
Because really the only possible explanation for this is that you connect to a different tower then before...And it my be that that tower is a 30mbps tower and the one you connected to was a 100mbps...
I also had such an occurrence where my DL dropped from 35 to 6 and my UL upped from 4 to 7 and this was all because the router was relocated to my room which has 2 walls between it and the 100mbps tower i had connected to recently.
A fair thing to do would be to actually look for the towers in you area...place a TM sim in an 4g enabled phone and do a speed test while you are directly next to that specific tower.
After doing that reposition your antenna and put is closer to the direction of the antenna that has the higher performance reading.

I am not sure where the tower is, but have some idea but it ill not be LOS without some obstacles. Perhaps if I use antenna pole, it would be LOS. However, I only got a 5 m cable....poor planning. When i walked outside with my router in hand, I actually got 4 bars in one place, on the ground, no LOS, with DL of 40. Expected the same and more by using the antenna.
If so...try and see what happens when u put the antenna at the height from ground level as the router and do a speed test.
Great, will play around a bit. Even now with reduced DL speeds, but with UL speed much higher, my son has stopped complaining about lagging when he plays Xbox live, whilst I am also on the internet, watching eg Youtube etc. Suppose the UL speed might have been the culprit.
Mind me asking what xbox system he is using coz from my assumption it has to be the xbone as it does require a stable UL speed to perform at its best. Antennas are really good as inducing UL speeds and keeping them stable
Thing is I was in that spot, but did not get that same results. Ascribed it to the fact that it is a directional antenna needing more precise setup etc. Got onto a ladder to get higher and got 3 bars. However, did not get the 40 DL speed. On the other hand, in the period since I did the outside walk and getting the antenna, it appeared that the overall quality of the service became more erratic. Maybe more users on the tower etc.
Really you are wasting your time asking these kinda questions to the people at these telkom outlets. If you got a blue reading on the router...you have LTE/4g...next time you go to get the product ,just walk in and cash it out...no questions no problem.
And the clear explanation for this is that they haven't updated there 4g map on their website.
