Pardon my ignorance, but I did not know that there are different systems . He also does not know. How would I determine that?

Its the Xbox one and xbox 360...the Newer one is the xbox one.


I just checked up the antenna that you say you bought. Since it is directional and has a high gain ,i'd say that you have been connecting to the wrong tower as of before.

Since you say you got 40mbps on 3bars then check out my results http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/1484315923 ...also on 3bars and when i go near the same tower i get 4 bars and this is what i get http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/1339850163

So that being said...without the antenna your router connects to the 100mbps tower at which u get those beautiful DL speeds ,all you need to do is to locate the tower and point the antenna at its direction ...

Go play around a bit ,i mean its a saturday...so get an extension...get on the roof and start a 360°rotation and see if u can find that sucker

I have the Telkom LTE setup at home. Always had only 1 bar. Average 20 down and 1 or less up. Ping in the 30s. Bought XPOL 0002 V2 antenna. Currently in roof and getting 3 bars. Sometime 4 bars. Now, the download speed now varies around 10 and upload increased to 2-4. Ping now in 40s. Before I now do extensive testing by repositioning the antenna and comparing with and without antenna etc, IS IT at all possible that the download speed can actually reduce, whilst the signal went from 1 bar to 3 bars on the H router? So, is such a scenario technically possible?
Yes, yes. Possible technically and proven in a real world (as you read this thread from the beginning).

Fact that ping time has increased gives me a thought that internal antenna is communicating with two towers simultaneously in 2x2 MIMO downstream mode (one data stream from one tower and another from some other one). When using directional antenna you have streamlined your operation to a single tower. Now it can be still working in 2x2 MIMO or it could be even reduced to 2x1 MIMO downstream mode (depends of software configuration). Slower download speeds indicate the later one. However the average ping time is always quicker when two different towers respond to your ping requests. This is from the mathematical equation.

Download speeds can be cheated by various 2x2 MIMO modes, but upload speeds are clearly indicative of higher radio link quality as your router is unable to negotiate 2x2 MIMO upstream transfer. So I think in the absence of error rate indicator you should be looking for optimising upload speeds when positioning your external antenna.

You have mentioned that with external antenna your connection is more suitable for playing games, but is not neccessary because of faster upload speed. Upload speed is probably still fast enough for gaming requirements, it is a stability of the connection which matters. Stable response time in absence of lost packets.

This is a classic (not obscured) scenario, you can see that a similiar case had been reported on the beginning of this thread and repeated regularly afterwards. Typical explanation was given that a tower you are connecting has a slower capacity. I see you had been already given such explanation. :) I am more and more convinced that it is not true and the only correct explanation is given in this post.
Conguested towers could add complication to the above picture in future, but I think we don't need to take into consideration as speak.

If you want to take advantage connecting to multiple towers simultaneously, dual omnidirectional antennas would do a trick. Unless you have a reason for dual cross-polarized highly directional antennas for your LTE connection, I think this type of antenna should be considered in the first place.

My opinion, but make it sticky. :)
 
Hi guys

So I'm online with my B593 and my Telkom sim inside, I can make a actual connection via WiFi to either a mobile device or a laptop but cannot browse any Web pages, I've called the call centre twice and my sim is fully active and has been Rica'ed. I've got the device now for three days and Im still battling.

Help please, any advice

Hmm did you get your sim on a special deal or just off the counter? Maybe cross check with them if it has been provisioned for data (though normally it should just work soon after Rica & has a positive data balance)

Hey bud,

We'll I got the R599.00 uncapped LTE deal. Call centre says my sim is fully active and Rica has been done. Such frustration been trying for hours on end to get this sorted...

So maybe an issue with the sim itself. I'd suggest you grab a test prepaid Telkom Mobile sim to eliminate some variables here. If another sim works then we know the issue is not with data coverage by your tower and also that the router works 100%. You could maybe even already throw in any other working sim you have handy to ascertain the router is alright

Yeah bud, Mtn and a Telkom prepaid sim works 100% and on full LTE. This is so strange, I was really expecting to pop the sim in and voila sorted.
Got a feeling it's either the sim is not fully provisioned for LTE usage just yet or there's some data usage blockage occurring somewhere,the Prepaid Telkom sim works perfect

My friend has the router B5953s-601 with telkom mobile uncapped lte. His IPv4 Dns is showing 8.8.8.8. Pdp type set to auto. Reset router to factory settings and still the same. Router connected to his PC only via wifi. PC ipv4 settings is set to obtain dns on auto. I cant figure out why any help would be appreciated.

Where is it showing this DNS - on the modem/router, or on the PC ?

I've always left mine set to "IPv4".


I'm not sure if the DNS settings for Telkom LTE Uncapped would be any different (I highly doubt it), but this is what you should see on the modem/router's "Internet Status" page (reached at Home/ Overview) :

The above was obtained when running on Telkom prepaid LTE (50GB/12mo/R1799 deal)


Router connected to his PC only via wifi. PC ipv4 settings is set to obtain dns on auto. I cant figure out why any help would be appreciated.

Almost sounds to me like something on the PC might be overriding the DNS settings provided by the B593's DHCP.
Also make sure everything is cool under "LAN / DHCP settings" on the B593 ?

I know that with my Telkom prepaid LTE, I usually get an IP of the form 41.145.xx.xx, or sometimes in the 10.xx.xx.xx range (could well be 10.150.xx.xx, I can't remember).

But that DNS looks suspect (that's a Google public DNS, and only one at that - if Telkom were using a Google public DNS (unlikely),one would expect 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

With my prepaid Telkom LTE I've only ever seen the SAIX DNS addresses provided (196.43.45.190 and 196.43.50.190 are in Pretoria).
Almost looks to me like that SIMcard isn't provisioned properly ?

Even given the "weird" DNS, the acid test is : do you get internet service ?

Maybe someone else on Telkom uncapped LTE can confirm what IP format and DNS servers they get allocated ?
Perhaps also ask here.
