The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

Hi all still a newbie so please forgive me

I'm looking at getting a month to month sim only telkom LTE deal and then buying a Huawei B593 router cash

I know telkom LTE uses 2300 bandwidth so my question is do all Huawei B593 routers work with telkom LTE or rather which ones do as I know that the B593u-12 doesn't work on this bandwidth.

I'll try find out exactly which router it is but thought I'd ask in the meantime

You want the -u91 or (preferably) the -s601 for use with Telkom LTE

Anyone know where the current best price is / have a spare to sell me? I'm in Cape Town btw

Also, is there an easy way of me identifying the -601 on gumtree? A lot of the ads show the box saying "LTE CPE B593". Is there somewhere on the box that says the full model number?

Check Edgars. They were selling the newer 315 for 999 not too long ago.
 
Are there pro's and con's with the 315? Anyone experienced both?

I know the 593 well (and am fond of it!) so I'm inclined to stick with it. But I'll have a read through the 315 thread to get a feel.

The main thing for me is whether the 315 does as well as the 593 in making the most of poor LTE signal.

If you mean the Huawei B593 (as per this thread), and specifically the -s601 variant, then .. yes it does. There are plenty of posts on the subject in this thread.
Have a look at this one and the ones that follow for starters.

The other contemporary models (B315s, E5186) will have a similar level of port-forwarding functionality.

Hi Guys

Does anybody have a set of paddle antenna's they would like to sell? I am in Roodepoort area. My B593 never came with them neither did my E5186. I do use a pointing antenna for the E5186 but would just like to up the B593 a bit....

Yes I'm in Roodepoort and I have a spare pair (bought a pack of 10 from AliExpress some time ago, they all seem to be working great). PM if interested

Hey Conrads!

If I were you I wouldn't bother, mate. There are plenty of documented cases on the thread where the internal patch antennas outperformed the flat whips, and very few cases (that I've seen) where the reverse was true. That's certainly been the case in all my testing.
That's the Huawei OE flat whips, anyway ... 3rd party ones may or may not be better.

Just my R0.02 worth ...

Thanks Buddy, much appreciated. I do get around 3 bars signal currently on 4G so thought it might help. Don't want to add another antenna to the roof as it's just for my wife's usage in the room, maybe a movie stream here and there and dstv wifi connection.

Hey buddy
Just an update....Right you are again. I tried the flat whips and I get one bar signal less than the internal antenna's. So removed them and are now using the internal antenna's again....I should have listened... :D

If you don't want to go the Full Monty with an outdoor antenna, you could perhaps try a "desktop" antenna like the Poynting XPOL-0010. People's experiences do tend to vary a bit depending on circumstances, but some folks have had real success with it.

Thanks buddy, will check if I can get my hands on one, see they are not pricey from Poynting Direct.
