The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

I've read many replies on the whole B593 primary router + secondary router route here to get Unotelly etc working, but I just can't seem to get the access points working correctly.

Is my secondary router (Netgear DG834v5) not the right one to be trying? It doesn't have a WAN port. When I set its IP up as 192.168.1.2 and the B593 as 192.168.1.1 and as the default gateway, none of my devices could connect to the wifi of either. I also tried the recommendation on switching the Netgear router to a wireless repeater and adding MAC addresses, but that proved unsuccessful too and ended up becoming way too complicated for my level of knowledge.

I need to extend the range of my network from the B593 and get Unotelly/Netflix working, so what is my best option for this?
 
jcheek, much appreciated. Seems it was a two stage process. Had an issue with simcard which it seems never worked but Vodacom was helpful after testing it and replaced it. (Frustrating though that Vodacom only sells 20gb once off data and not the 50-100gb that some of the others offer) And then had to run through the manual connection bit to be able to find and connect to Vodacom LTE network as it did not pick it up straight away.

Not relevant to this thread or maybe it is but am I correct in assuming that all data has to go through this router? I mean that if I load say 10gb of data onto the simcard and place it in the modem then the stats on the modem will reflect all data used? So if my data runs out on my simcard long before my router clocks 10gb then something is amiss...... Everything from Windows updates to streaming youtube etc should always reflect in the router's stats.

That's my understanding too, yes. The 'Totals' counter counts everything (up and down), so if the B593 is your only internet gateway then yes, it should all tally.
I've never done a byte-for-byte check, but the totals between Telkom's management console, the B593 counter (which is re-settable) and my primary router's stats have always seemed to agree quite well.

Yes. Everything which goes through the router. When you put a new bundle on the SIM card, you should should reset router's stats.

Having said so, router's stats are not 100% reliable. You must always control your usage with Vodacom. Othewise it could cost lot of money.

That is what I would have thought as well but loaded a 1gb yesterday to test all this and get the router set up. 885mb later and vodacom telling me 1Gb is finished. Would think 14% is more that a bit out. Wifi switched off on the router so cant be someone piggybacking on my signal either.

Router can lose statistics if it hangs and internal watchdog restarts device. You will only notice a dropped LAN cable indicator for 20 seconds. Then current session is reset and you must also inspect total.

I noticed even worse with ZTE MF283, it was frequent. When I compared current session stats with total, it was inconsistent. Total stats were messed up as well.

I have a device Apex hooked up to the B593 routers lan that i'm supposed to be able to access from the web/cloud Fusion- same like a webcam - no software, is web based (its an aquarium monitor/controller) & i can't get it to work

Device is connected to lan
PC is wired to B593
I can access the device locally
Mac Filtering, Ive whitelisted the device
I've enabled DMZ for the device IP address also

Trying to connect using my IP via the web it comes up asking for username/password & will then go no further.

Can i get this to work on the B593 or am i wasting my time?
Does the 315 router offer any better solution? Or is this never going to work with LTE?

In the firewall settings of the B593 i see this: Inbound (from Internet to LAN) policy: Dropped which one can't change whether on high/med/low or custom settings.....Is this the culprit?

At present the setting up of the account with fusion it needs to communicate with the device(send a token) & as far as that is concerned it doesn't see the device.I suspect that above unchangeable security setting might be the problem.

Would anyone have any comments of what to try or spell out that it won't work before i lose all my hair?;)
 
can i use this router for my adsl at home?

If you mean "Can I use the RJ-11/12 'telephone ports' at the back for ADSL', then ... No, those are for plugging in analogue telephones to make cellular voice calls only. See here.

If you mean "Can I use the B593 to replace my (crummy) ADSL service with LTE", then .. Yes, absolutely!

If you are gong this route, here is short guide for bridging Huawei "Gateway Router" (GR) and better router:

1: Disable WLAN and DHCP on the GR
2: Enable DMZ on the GR
3: Setup WAN interface IP address of the router
4: Change LAN interface IP address of the router, it must a different LAN segment than GR
5. Set default gateway on the router and point it to the GR

Example:
GR IP=192.168.1.1 [default] (connect LAN port GR to the WAN port of the router)
Router's WAN port IP=192.168.1.2
Router's LAN interface IP=192.168.2.1
Default Gateway on the router 192.168.1.1
Netmask 255.255.255.0 (everywhere)

I am looking to do this with my B315S router. Looks like it should work. Just one question though ... It requires a DMZ IP. Do i leave it as is or do i put a specific IP?

Good question, but I created this guide on B315s. Very much specific IP. In step 2 you must chose IP address for the router's WAN interface and place it DMZ. The same IP address you will enter in step 3 in the router.
 
As this thread is about B593, I must pay out for replying to the B315s question. :)

Here is the most simple DMZ configuration on B593 is with DHCP server enabled on both GR and router:

1. Make sure that both GR and router IP LAN inteface is in different LAN segment. In B593 default LAN IP address is 192.168.1.1, so the router's IP address must be different than 192.168.1.x (where 'x' means anything). Adjust if neccessary on GR or on router. 192.168.y.1 is fine (where 'y' is in the range 2-254)

2. Connect one of GR LAN port to the WAN port of the router by cable.

3. On the GR configuration page make note of router's auto assigned IP address. On the DHCP settings page reserve this IP address by linking it to the router's MAC address. The same IP address must be entered in GR's DMZ option menu.

In the above method you don't need to declare default gateway server IP address on the router, GR IP will be used automatically.

What is the model number of your old Adsl router? Depending on the configurable dhcp options on your old router (most importantly gateway&dns servers), you could try disbale dhcp on the B593, let your old adsl router run dhcp on the same subnet as the B593 and point your clients to use the B593 as the gateway and unotelly DNS servers. That's what i do with mine , i have a TPLink router that does my addressing with the B593 being the gateway

Could you expand on how you managed this.
Been trying to get it working all night but no joy.

Have a TP link aswell.
