"Hyundai has added a new variant to its popular i20 range - the N-Sport. The new hatchback gains style tweaks and an increase in power.

The N-Sport is powered by the same four-cyclinder 1.4 litre engine, mated to a six-speed manual, as its siblings though tuned to deliver 85kW/160Nm (up from 74kW/133Nm).

It is actually good looking, but why make it look German if their concept is already out? especialy if it is the way forward (they claim) for hyundai?

Very golf-esque look they have there.

However at that price the Fiesta is a much better bet. Add a tad and 1.5L Eco Focus is there.

Drive a Fiesta then drive an i20 and compare.

Immediately you'll notice the differences. From the quality of materials, to the solidness of the steering, the the skittishness at speeds the i20 has and the overall driving experience the Fiesta has over the i20.

The i20 has more gizmo's but the drive is kark, as with most Korean tinboxes. The Accent is even worse than the i20 (how they manage this I don't know). The Vivo even drives a lot better than the Accent.

Ford>Honda>VW>Chevrolet>Hyundai>Toyota.

The only thing worse than the Hyundai was the Etios. What a POS that is.

Haven't driven Hondas and Frods recently. Have driven Chevs and Vivos. Nothing superior about a Vivo, and Chevs are Korean anyway. Agreed on the Etios though :)

The Vivo is crap, but is more confident on the road. much more refined than the low-end Hyundai's. If the Chevs are made within Korean boarders, maybe they need to look to their next-door counterparts for some driving refinement inspiration.
 
Hyundai is understood to be testing a new 1.0-litre variant of the i20 hatchback, which is scheduled to go on sale at the start of next year.

Expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September, the 1.0-litre version was first mooted when the second-generation i20 was unveiled at the 2013 Paris motor show.

At last year's Paris motor show, Hyundai unveiled two new downsized, turbocharged petrol engines - a 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre. The three-cyclinder 1.0-litre unit has a capacity of 998cc and is based on the Korean firm's existing Kappa MPI engine. The engine features direct injection and a small, single-scroll turbocharger and can be tuned to produce up to 118bhp and 127lb ft.

By comparison, Hyundai's existing 1.0-litre engine, which is available in the smaller i10, produces 65bhp. The smallest-capacity engine in the current i20 line-up is a 74bhp 1.2-litre petrol.

The i20 is currently Hyundai's second best-selling model in the UK, and introducing a frugal new petrol option with more power would help to further broaden its appeal. As well as slotting into the hatchback, it's likely that the new 1.0-litre engine will also find its way into the i20 Coupé, which went on sale in the UK this March.

Contrary to some reports, it's unlikely that these spy pictures show a hotter version of the i20. The brand has recently launched a performance i30 Turbo, and the i20 is considered to be a strong contender for a hotter version badged under the firm's N performance banner, but it's understood that there are no immediate plans to launch such a car.

Interestingly, these spy pictures show a fully camouflaged test mule - a strong step to take if the car is only being used to test a new engine. Camouflage around the front bumper hides some minor styling changes compared with the regular i20, suggesting Hyundai may be set to make some minor changes to the i20's styling as part of an early mid-life facelift.

While Hyundai is unlikely to reveal prices for the new 1.0-litre i20 until closer to the car's launch, the current i20 range starts at £10,995.

Hyundai i20 Turbo Edition packs more standard kit

The new Hyundai i20 Turbo Edition will cost from £12,975 when it arrives in showrooms this month.

The five-door compact hatchback costs less than the current SE model i20 with the equivalent engine, but Hyundai has managed to cram in more standard equipment.

The latest addition sports Hyundai’s three-cylinder, turbocharged, 1.0-litre engine with 99bhp and CO2 emissions of 104g/km, which puts it into band B for Vehicle Excise Duty. The existing SE-spec i20, with the same powertrain but smaller wheels, emits 99g/km of CO2 and slots into the cheaper VED band A, but costs £14,025 on the road.

The Hyundai i20 Turbo Edition rides on 16in alloy wheels and is available in a choice of six colours: Polar White, Aqua Sparkling, Sleek Silver, Stardust Grey, Phantom Black and Red Passion.

The interior is black and grey, and equipment levels improve on those in the i20 SE. Like the SE, it gets Bluetooth connectivity, a DAB digital radio, cruise control and speed limited and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. In addition, the Turbo Edition comes with a rear-view camera, automatic lights and satellite navigation on a seven-inch touch screen.

Owners will get a free seven-year TomTom Live Services subscription for the sat-nav, which gives live traffic information, speed camera alerts and weather updates.

A spokesman for Hyundai said that 1000 Turbo Editions would be coming to the UK initially, but if it proves popular with customers, then more could follow.

I'm sure all of the SA versions will get that big screen infotainment system for sure..
 
At the rate they are cutting off the Hyundai infotainment systems the 2018 model one will look similar to this:
