The ICC T20 World Cup 2016 thread

If NZ win the T20 WC, they'll be the fifth different winner. No team has won it twice yet. You have to now favour India though. Their 'get out of jail' effort against Bangladesh coupled with Kohli's heroics against the Aussies means all the momentum is with them.

Trying to work out what the Windies are doing. They scraped past us (a game WE should've won) and got beaten by the Afghans. I wouldn't write them off but they don't seem to be the team they were at the start of the tournament.

England by all rights shouldn't be here but they are and as we've seen ( ), have the firepower to chase down any score . If they lose, it won't be their batting that's let them down though.

NZ will be quietly confident. They haven't won a game yet when chasing so if they are put in that situation it will be interesting to see how they fare. Guptill should be fit to play which will be welcome.

Going for a NZ/India final with India eventually winning.

Actually 6th different:
2007 - India
2009 - Pakistan
2010 - England
2012 - West Indies
2014 - Sri Lanka

3 teams in semis are previous winners, with NZ being the only newcomer, and they thoroughly deserve it.

Oh sixth! Yeah sorry. Not sure why 5th popped into my head

All I remember about '96 world cup

NZ at Feroz Shah Kotla...wonder what team they will select. Minimum 2 spinners but do Boult or Southee play? This pitch is going to be quicker (or maybe less slow is more accurate) than the other grounds they've been playing at.

They will stick to the same side, especially against england. England like pace on the ball would be foolish to give them that.

Yeah, only a world cup winning medal but they so common place in our cricketing history.

The fundamentals remain the same regardless of age group. Train hard, practice hard, put in more effort than your competitors and you will truimph. That was pretty much the ethos which Hanise's Proteas followed and for the most part it served them well. 99 has been our best effort to date.

Our most successful national coaches have usually coached at age group level. Think PDV and Jake White.

Was referring to the top level not youth team trophies. Domingo has more top level titles then jennings.

Also there is rather big difference between telling some snot nosed no name youngster what to do and trying to tell guys like graeme smith what to do, as jet found out when he tried to pull that with the proteas. You think the likes of ab,hash, steyn, faf, ect will listen to do that?

Hansie ethos was match fixing...

Its a real shame Gazza couldn't continue because of the family commitments. He had the right balance.

Hansie ethos was match fixing...

It's a shame that's all some will remember him for.

Under Cronje's captaincy, South Africa won 27 Tests and lost 11, completing series victories against every team except Australia.
He captained the One Day International team to 99 wins out of 138 matches with one tied match and three no results. He holds the South African record for matches won as captain, and his record of captaining his side in 138 matches stands bettered only by Graeme Smith's 149 matches as ODI captain. His 99 wins as captain makes him the fourth most successful captain worldwide in terms of matches won, behind Ricky Ponting, Allan Border and Mahendra Singh Dhoni and in terms of percentage of wins, behind Ponting and Clive Lloyd.
Between September 1993 and March 2000, he played in 162 consecutive ODIs, a South African record.

I think that match-fixing and spot fixing needs to be differentiated.

With spot fixing the result is not necessarily a fix.

There was never a criminal trial nor investigation in SA. There was only a commitee of inquiry. We have no way of knowing how deep he went.

What we do know is he came to the team with an offer to fix a benefit game in india that the team shot down. We don't know whether next he only approached some individual, you get enough on board and you can throw a game.

As there was no criminal trial it will always be a case of those who still believe cronje had some good in him believing in the end he came totally clean while others like me believe the little devil was never 100% honest.
