The iOS 12 Thread/Discussion

Updated my iPad Pro and iPhone 6S to iOS 12 successfully just now. Noticeable improvement in how fast apps open, as advertised. Hopefully the battery performance has improved, will see how it goes. Would have loved to get watch OS 5, but it is not supported for my series 0 watch - I plan to upgrade to series 4 next year.

On the iPad, it is interesting to see that they have moved the signal strength and wifi icons to the right side of the status bar on top of the screen, and the time moved from the middle to the left. I updated the iPad first, so after seeing this, I thought it would also change on the phone, but it is still the same. On the iPad it looks a little bit stupid IMHO, the time should have been kept in the middle. You also can't see the network operator name anymore, as with the new iPhones, you have to open Control Centre to see it.
 
The shortcuts seem great so far. Hopefully more apps get on board soon
 
Could we get a sticky for people to share their custom shortcuts?

It’s nice but it needs some tweaking. I’d like to be able to set multiple downtimes and set specific app limits instead of limiting entire sets of app types.

So the point what I was making was that this 'power' we have been temporary granted over the next generation should not be abused, as it tends to come back to bite you in the ass.

Limiting the amount of time your [young] kids' have access to the internet is a far cry from an abuse of power. It's call parenting.

Turns out to be the non-apple power brick that I was using for years... Switched to an apple brick last night and now my phone is charging again.

Is the brick faulty then? I've just tried a few third party chargers and they seem to charge my phone.

It was charging my phone, as I was doing the update and stopped after the update. Thought I had the battery bug, so I used my phone until it died. Plug it in again and after 2 hours, it was on 9%. Connected my iPhone brick and after a couple of minutes, it was up to 25% and fully charged this morning.

I presume coincidental failure, I’ve just tested a couple of non genuine charger blocks to an iPhone running iOS 12 and an iPad running iOS 12.1 beta and both charged.

It might be the cable (if not original). They tend to add fake cable ids to the list of blocked peripherals with each release.

Preparation for the "X" design version of the iPad.

Makes sense to make it universal now, over running different versions down the line.
