The iOS 13 Thread/Discussion

Weird there shouldn’t be any change car side.

Carplay got a massive overhaul in IOS 13, like dual screen support. There are going to be heaps of issues.

@iWish just use the feedback app to report the problems so that it your issue can be logged and investigated.

For those on dev beta or even public beta - Do you have access to camera roll or even files in terms of saving media. Suppose one comes across an image on twitter - the share sheet has no save option on my end. Thats the only issue I am having otherwise automatic dark mode - turns dark at night and back to daylight mode in daylight is awesome - swipe keyboard - 3d touch aka long press touch of things like wifi to enable secondary menus is also quite cool. Seems snappier as well. Quite stable besides very minor graphic glitches in messages etc.

But yea any resolve for the share sheet save to camera option - or is that fixed perhaps in public beta for those that are currently trying it out?

I believe Dev Beta 2 = Public Beta 1.

As for Twitter there is a Save Photo option in Twitter two rows down.

Yes but it remains a mirroring feature and shouldn’t have a problem still working from the car end.

If anything the dual screens shouldn’t work.

Mine has worked flawlessly from the first moment it was on iOS13.

I would rather look to see it’s not maybe a permission issue and that CarPlay needs to be enabled again or re-initialised.

But yes for sure failing that log any feedback.

 my whole life has been a lie! DO you know i have never seen that whole list before!! I used to long press and get download. Now when I click on share i see the airdrop/messages/mail options but it has never occurred to me to just scroll down. I always scrolled sideways

Wow, thanks.

I’ll first try and unpair my device and connect again. I’ll send feedback to Apple accordingly.

Yeah I do remember Twitter had a “right click” save style before which is now gone.

But the Share options were always there as well, but in fairness it did look quite different before.

So I think the hold click now just brings up the share menu instead as default behaviour.

Installed iPad OS Public Beta on my iOS Air 2, and I am well impressed considering that this is a 5 year old tablet, it is running well, although being a Beta I do see some bugs here and there hence I did not load this public beta on my iPhone, the iPad will be my test mule until the update is finalized and released as an official update, then I will update my XS Max.

Would be really nice for them to allow setting Siri to use your preferred applications when making voice commands.

Can't ask for a song to play as she defaults to using Apple Music.

Unless I'm missing something

How big was the upgrade to the latest version?

My android update is 1028MB which feels big (android 8 to 9)

Not sure on OTA update, think it was 1.5GB or so.

Whole image is 4.34GB.

But major updates are always large at it replaces the entire file system in one go and doesn’t really patch anything.

Minor version once past 13 will be smaller again.

I'm a 30 year software developer of Techgara and have a lot of experience writing software for iOS.
I depend on my phone and iPad too much to risk it running a beta.
Can you irrevocably screw up your data? Yup. It's not likely, but it can happen. You might not be able to use your iOS 13 backups if you downgrade back to 12, so keep a backup BEFORE you upgrade AT THE VERY LEAST.
Can it mess up your iCloud? Yup. It's even LESS likely, but it's possible, especially if there are changes happening to iCloud, and AFAIK in iOS 13 there are changes happening *everywhere*.
There's a reason Apple is calling it "Beta". That means "It's not done yet."
This is the hard truth about software betas. DON'T RUN IT ON SOMETHING THAT'S CRITICAL TO YOUR LIFE.

A little alarmist.

Apple do warn you specifically when you are about to upgrade into territory you can't revert back to like when iCloud Drive first came out and if you did the upgrade you couldn't go back.

None of that applies in this case, only for Reminders if you upgrade before others in your Family Sharing or Shared Reminders do then you can't roll back or get full features to them.

Also the day your phone becomes critical to your life I would argue you need to evaluate your state of being. In contrast, Tesla run cars with Beta software. CARS!!!!

TDLR; Public Beta should be just fine for pretty much everyone.

Tesla beta is by invitation only to very select and limited drivers.

Also this is just a phone and an operating system. Run it if you don't need your phone 24x7 and can live with apps being broken until September/October.

There is really no rush.

It’s always a game of moving targets.

Even waiting until Sep/Oct is no guarantee of everything working.

Better odds, certainly.

****

Note I’m not advocating everyone install the developer beta. But Apple are obviously confident enough to release the Public Beta, hence the name.

Waiting for Public Beta 6. Usually when things are ok for daily use with my luck.
Anything before then would be slightly inconvenient if it stops working

Really liking the pinched keyboard in iPad OS. This update has made my old iPad Air 2 a far more useful device, which is amazing considering how old this tablet is. I have been using it more as my Netflix/YouTube machine in bed, but I’ll be using it a lot more for productivity now.

So I decided to go back to 12.3.1 as I had issues trying to set up a google home mini - long story short I had to wipe the entire device and set it up again. I did so to do away with all extra junk and gain abit of space too.

My question however is, is there a way to restore the messages that were on the phone prior to the wipe. I had done a backup but it was of beta 13. I can also access this same backup with iMazing app. Just cant find a way to restore my sms -
Secondly I am struggling to find a way to merge all my contacts into one backup/list. I could not find some contacts till I added my gmail onto the phone and had contacts sync. I then realized that when saving my contacts they were being saved onto gmail somehow and not on iCloud. Looking for a way to have all contacts in icloud and so I just rely on one list.

Any ideas?

I'm loving the tracking lyrics and visualization in both iOS13 and tvOS.
