i had the phone on 2.2 and jailbreaked. but without fully realising upgraded to 2.2.1 and now cant jailbreak. is there a way of going back to 2.2. ive tried the iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore file and followed the steps and just near the end it comes up with an error message and then fails. ive tried downloading the file from different sites and always the same error message and now can only restore back to 2.2.1

is there a way around this?

thanks

hi dbstorm

have a look on www.quickpwn.com, they claim the latest quickpwn jailbreaks 2.2.1, I'd like to know if this works when you use the firmware downloaded with iTunes, which you already have....

let me know if you manage to jailbreak 2.2.1, I'd like to upgrade at some point

except you can't restore that back to the phone

Correct, of course iTunes does that - backup/restore with USB.

I use SMS2Mail to send a copy of all my SMSes to my gmail account which is also searchable.

i dont seem to know how to back up sms via itunes. is there specific settings for that?

A word of caution to 10.5.6 users wanting to apply the DFU "fix"' for pwnage tool... It will allow you to pwn your iPhone but your USB port may become unstable and cause OSX to crash, this is what happened to me luckily my user account is on a separate partition so I was able to reinstall OSX and not lose a thing.

What do you mean no service? Can't you make a call or anything?

Woohoo!!!!!

Did it, created a carrier bundle for MTN, that contains the mtn logo (which can now be easily replaced by any logo with a simple winterboard theme). No need to program in the edge/gprs/3g internet settings or the voicemail number. Just copy the carrier bundle to the correct directory register the symlink and viola phone is setup

does this also fix the voicemail number for mtn on the speed voicemail dial button on the phone app??

It should, you can test it if you want, I have already used the "code" for my mtn voicemail as described in a post in this thread. But I did enter it in carrier.plist. only way for me to test it 100% is to restore my phone, and no that is not gonna happen.

If you want to test it I can send you the file/folder and the commands to add it.

I just used the vodacom one that is supplied and changed it a bit to work for mtn, so it should work 100%, but yes like I said, when I created it, I had already setup my phone the manual way.

I basically use it to play with different carrier logos and now it works like a charm with winterboard when you know the directory structure

Dang, gave away mah secret here!

I only did the carrier thing cause I hate the MTN-SA scrolling letters on my phone, now I have the super awesome total uber blade runner carrier logo!!

Ok, is it only possible to SSH into the phone via wifi or could it be done with a usb?

Secondly, do I need a wifi router or would a ad hoc wifi network also work?
I'm trying to connect my iphone to my laptop but can't seem to get it working, any help please... :(

I'm trying to get the SSH working but I'm struggling!

Dont know if ssh works through usb, cause you need an ip to connect to an iphone with putty, what you can do with a usb cable ( and it works like a charm) is look for diskaid or iphonebrowser, both are freeware , both are amazing (I use both). Then you laptop see your phone like in explorer.

With wifi, I just use sbsettings, it displays the ip of your phone through the wifi, and then i just use putty to connect to it

Yep you can SSH over USB (Putty and WinSCP), iPhone Tunnel Suite (or the new 2.7 BETA Version here) .You may need to input a fake "WiR" (Wi-Fi) address for this version if you don't have WiFi

Manuals and everything are there but basically.

- Install OpenSSH from Cydia
- Install iPhone Tunnel Suite\
- Plug in your iPhone via USB cable
- Run it, Click the iTunnel button first
- Login (password is 'alpine')
- Then click WinSCP (my lang was at french initially, but it wasn't too hard to change it to english. Try replacing the WinSCP .exe in the iPhone Tunnel Suite with the english one.)
- Click login

Voila.

Bravestar... forget about ssh, if u not that hectically technical, just get iphonebrowser (google it), and that allows access to the file system via usb, very explorer like interface

ad hoc does work for wifi, just use basic wep authentication to get it to work though, then you shouldn't have issues

to use your phone as a modem, get pdanet app on cydia, and follow the instructions to download the pdanet desktop client (pdanet works over wifi without the desktop client, but much nicer with the client)
