What a mission to activate beta 2! I had to use a String Editor to change the firmware from 3.0 to 2.2 so I can trick the phone in iTunes it is version 2.2 so I can update :D

beta 2 is sick! I love the everything about it, especially the new Messages.app

I jailbroke anyway, just to test it out. I quite like Icy compared to Cydia - very quick.. Almost none of the apps work but who cares, at least I can SSH...

Roland: How do I select text that I want to copy?

in an editable text block, you double tap on a word, on a non editable window (safari etc), tap and hold

Hello

All the apps I've downloaded for my phone is on my PC(Desktop) at home, I rather want to start syncing from my notebook.

Is it possible to move to apps over or do I have to download them again from the notebook?

i don't want to sync from multiple libraries only the one on the notebook.

This possible and how?

@Bravestar

connect the phone to the laptop, cancel the sync on the phone ad soon as it starts, then, in iTunes:

sign in your iTunes account, click store -> authorize computer
then, right click the phone in the browser on the left and click transfer purchases
left click the phone so u see the phone sync settings

if you want to sync music from your PC and laptop, check "manually manage music"

contacts, calenders, notes, manually managed music and apps can sync with multiple machines, automatc synced music, photos, videos and podcasts can sync with only one machine, but it doesn't have to be the same machine, as long as you know what is checked on which machine you can ignore itunes' warnings

Roland I am removing beta 2! I make one phone call and boom! 25% battery gets drained! Downgrading back to 2.2.1 till beta 3 gets released...

Edit: Wow.. quite a mission downgrading to 2.2.1 in Mac. Don't understand how you use beta 2 - if I had to stare at the battery percentage I could see it count down! lol

Hope beta 3 won't drain the battery that much... And hopefully by then our dev account will be active so it'll make my life easier loading up beta's...

I extracted a backup using iPhone Backup Extractor for Mac.

Now in what exact directory can I SSH these files into so I can restore my AppStore apps??

com.bloomberg.Bloomberg
com.konami.mgst
7563K7QVW4.Newsstand

These folders just contain 'Documents' and an iTunesArtwork file..

strange, hasn't happened to me yet... battery life is still quite good for me, I go a day or two between charges...

must say, it took me about 2 or 3 days before i started liking beta3

globalitunes.com unfortunately died....

so, you buy an itunes voucher at: http://www.mediawob.com/ they'll send you the voucher code, remember to use it as soon as you get it, as it expires quite soon after being issued

then, open itunes, sign into your itunes account, go to the itunes store section, click on "redeem", it's one of the options in the upper right of the itunes store page, there you just enter the voucher code and voilla

$100!? What are you planning on buying from the US Store? lol

They only offer $25 and $50 vouchers... Go check it out...

their 50's are out of stock though... lol

you also get quite a few good deals on ebay

you often get the vouchers for a few dollars less than the voucher value...

there also used to be a guy on bidorbuy.co.za, but he's sold out at the moment as far as i know

I can get you a genuine itunes certificate directly from the US itunes store but you'll have to wait till friday though...

What do you mean by 'genuine'? You can get the actual physical voucher card?

I buy it from US the apple itunes store through iTunes, not the physical card but the email certificate.

I have a US paypal account linked to my store account.

Has anyone had a successful restore using APTbackup?

I have no tried it twice, and both times it just hangs after abouot 20-30 minutes of restore, with none of my apps being installed.

And now with the last restore, it seems not only to have skipped the step of re-installing all my cydia apps, but it has screwed up the OS ( and I am not in the mood to restore again, I'll now just wait for version 3 to appear one day)

i used it quite a few times before i went 3.0, worked great for me?? u sure it hangs after 20 minutes? are there not maybe any large cydia apps it's downloading?? that's the one thing that bothered me about the app, doesn't tell you what it's busy doing/downloading during the restore

keep in mind the app doesn't physically backup your apps, it just stores a list of the apps you have installed, and when you restore it downloads and installs them again

I have managed to use it successfully, but I agree that it's not very verbose about what it is actually doing

The last time I used it was going from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and I got stuck with the Apple logo at boot time and had to restore again. I suspect it might have been the restore of mobileinstallation patch 2.2 onto 2.2.1 that killed it.

I know it does not backup the apps, but oinly keeps a list. But Last weekend I ran it twice, after awhile the screen goes blank, the phone is not dead, I can hear the melody when an sms arrives, but after about 30 minutes, even the download light on my router has stopped, but there is just no way to revive the phone, I have to press home and the power button.

I even set the phone to always be on (backlight does not dim and the phone does not lock), kept it on the charger and started the restore process, when I got back, the screen was dead and no downloads were going through.

So maybe I am missing something, but so far I have had more success in making a list of the apps on my phone and just downloading it manually

I tried APTBackup when I went from 2.0 to 2.1 or something, long time ago so can't recall, but it didn't work as I expected. What I do now a days is just SSH in and run a "dpkg -l > apps.txt" and then copy the file off and make sure I put all of the apps back after I upgrade the firmware. Not the best option but works and I prefer to have more control.
