Morkhans, can i ask you to try activate the phone withouth connecting to iTunes after the restore? want to know if it can activate itself via 3G again...

standardbank intranet not letting me past the firewall to contact itunes server/store ;(

correct.. i'm just worried for my unlock as it prob updates baseband.

so will let you do the honours :)

i'm expecting the "unofficial jailbreak" within a few hours though, never takes them too long, and i've grown very fond of sbsettings again... aaaah

Sorry too late, when I said restoring it was restoring from backup.

Does iTunes not proxy through what you have set in IE or is it content filtered?

dunno hey? they haven't touched the 2G baseband in ages

what do you normally do to keep your unlock, I've got access to a 2G phone I'm allowed to play with... hehe

do you just do an update in stead of a restore? or does restore work as well?

it does proxy through the IE settings, but we very strictly kept in control here... lol

i always restore..

but all basebands for the 2G have been un-lockable so far i think, so I haven't had much of a problem. And they haven't updated for a while i think.

Fire up your torruntula, grab the 2G 3.0 and lemme know :D

will have to do that from home, only have a 1 gig bundle on the phone, so can only push so much data hey....

oh, ok, but, you unlock by doing a jailbreak and unlock right? it's not like it's unlocked when you're done with the restore??

word is, that, if there's no baseband update, and you do an update in stead of restore, you keep your unlock, as it's applied to the baseband i think

Yup the feeling is that Apple is done with baseband update for the 2G. I did see a few comments from people who ran upgrades to the betas on their 2G who retained their unlock but lost the jailbreak.

Aah thanks.. Also saw some comments on people that bricked their 2G's hahaha..

Man that must suck..

Think i'm gonna wait a lil bit on this one :o
 
Looks like I will have to downgrade iTunes again for the carrier bundles, unless Vodacom have released updates.
 
HEY!!!

at the OS3.0 event they said meebo is coming natively to the iPhone on os 3.0, i figured this release will have it

it doesn't!!!!!

I never upgraded itunes after the first 8.2 pre release, specifically because of the carrier bundles stuff, used that first release to do my restore now, and busy restoring backup at the moment
 
O, i might be smoking something, but it looks like my icons restored back in the same order they were in.
