Oh I see, so the unlock is there but you are still stuck on activation, bugger.

Yeah unfortunately :(

Was getting excited as well..lol..

I have the same thing, you get a cost on fixing it from anywhere?

Have you guys tried the obvious downgrading, rejailbreaking + unlocking?

Nope, I'm waiting for the official release and official pwngetool :D

Sorry i should have been a bit more clear what i was referring to.

I have already downgraded my 2G twice from 3.0 GM to 2.2.1. Must be in DFU mode otherwise it throws error 20..

But it's no use since we can't activate (yet) :p

Ahh I see missed your earlier posts :o

If you recall back a few months ago the SO's 2G broke and I really went the whole hog with baseband downgrades and restores, but no joy.

Ah yes I seem to remember.. :( such a shame.. the baseband is in tact though? cos if that's corrupt/erased you wont get any signal (sure you know this)

Just completed a shift+restore of 3.0 GM on the SO's iPhone 3G. Activated and busy restoring settings. This phone never had a dev ID. So just confirming what roland found.

I am pretty sure the baseband is in tact because I managed to downgrade it and after loading 2.2.1 again it upgraded it to the latest. I suspect it might be a loose connection inside.

Lucky you guys..

The activation servers - are they picking up the SIM that isn't a registered Vodacom contract user SIM or the phone (2G instead of 3G) ?

It just says my SIM is not supported when I restore/upgrade to 3.0 and try to activate.

Then I inserted my AT&T SIM that came in the phone when I bought it from the US. This enabled AT&T activation, tied to enter a cell number in there but no luck.. "Couldn't verify my details" or something after i typed my fake number in lol

Both our phones are with Vodacom. Did roland not say the one phone had an MTN SIM in it when he activated it?

Maybe Apple realised that if you paid cash for your unlocked phone it was unrealistic to expect you to have a supported carrier SIM in the phone. So my guess is it's just checking your S/N to see if it was sold as unlocked and activates on any SIM.

Well then it wouldn't have shown me the activation process when I inserted the AT&T SIM? I bought mine from an AT&T store so it wasn't a "prepaid" S/N or whatever.. Don't think they do it like that..

I reckon it should work if I use my mates SIM who's got a contract iPhone?

No, your phone will only activate with a valid (I guess active) AT&T SIM. The original plan with the 2G was that you go home with the phone and the AT&T SIM and then as part of the setup you need to take out a 2 year contract, only then could you activate it.

Aah yes.. Sounds about right.. So I guess the only way is the Quickpwn way..

Damn.. Gotta wait for Quickpwn for 3.0 GM or wait for the official release now :(

as far as i know AT&T's pretty specific on this, you need tell them that you have an iphone for your prepaid sim and they pair the two up on the activation database, so only that number can activate that phone

annoying hu? especially considering they're doing their best to clear their old 3G stock nowadays... lol

has anyone managed to get mms and tethering working properly??

i've managed to get one working at a time again, that is, different ipcc for different purpose, but in both cases it messes up the data connection for the phone itself (phones safari and mail etc. can't connect)

it's as if the phone is confusing it's APN's, and then tries to connect to the internet using the mms apn, or tries to tether with the mms apn, EXTREMELY ANNOYING!!!!

i got tethering to work by seting the cellular data and mms apn both to iphone.vodacom.za

the moment i then update the mms apn, tethering no longer works... wierd hu?

i've had accidental, can't remember what i did to the ipcc moments where mms works brilliantly

now i've gone back to the way back when beta 3 ipcc, and that seems to work, somewhat... internet on the phone works most of the time, mms wakes up every two hours and then suddenly i receive the test mms i sent hours ago, for a while mms then works great, but browsing the net on the phone doesn't, then a while later it swaps back, mms dies, internet works...

can't find any documentation on different switches in the carrier.plist file in the ipcc, so any info here would be appreciated... i've seen type-mask values of 2,1,0,-2, -7 and -12 used all over the place, but I can't figure out which means what exactly

Anyone know where on my local machine iTunes stores bookmarka that link of the springboard (i.e. a web shortcut with an icon attached to it)? I have a bookmark that I keep deleting that reappears every time I sync.

that's really strange

I activated a vodacom iphone that had an mtn sim in it yesterday after restoring to 3.0 GM...?

vodacom iphones are unlocked so no need to worry about unactivated/locked iphones, any simcard can be used.

Fxit like myself have the at&T iphone so we're stuck with having to use the at&t sim to activate legally or wait for quickpwn.
