So here goes...backing up my phone to upgrade...

Just update to 3.1. Took 15 minutes to run the update. Was not a fresh restore. I like the feel of the OS. Seems very quick. To turn the phone off takes only a few minutes. Boot up is also shortened. But I have not got Cydia etc on. So will have to see how it is once that is one.

Its busy with its first sync now...seems to be taking ages

UPDATE: mms works, sent a mms to MTN number. Recipient replied, she will mms back just now. Tethering option is there. Now just to jailbreak...May the fun begin

I'm still holding out :( need RedSn0w a.s.a.p. I can't live without Cydia :(

yea me too. Had to redo my phone so thought I would test it. Just to say I can and did do it. When redsn0w comes out, ill redo it. not to big of a deal.

So far no luck. Getting a -1604 error when restoring. May have downloaded the incorrect fw off the site. I think the best would be to have a VC JB FW to load. Eish. I more try then I go back to 3.0

For those that are wanting to follow the steps to JB 3.1 on windows...

http://modmyi.com/forums/iphone-news/684676-how-jailbreak-using-pwnage-tool-3-1-mac.html - This link contains the custom FW, download the no activation required.

Then I did a fresh restore to 3.0, and then jailbroke with redsn0w 0.8.
Activate your phone etc with iTunes, but dont bother installing anything just yet...

Once you have done this, shift click restore in iTunes, no need for DFU or recovery mode. Select the custom 3.1 FW and sit back and wait!

Oh and it installs Icy and Cydia

dare i say it....but it seems much faster on 3.1 as well as cydia feeling much better and more stable!

One problem found...when doing a search in cydia for a package, the delete button doesnt work. so if you make a type u have to delete the entire search and start again

It doesn't mention how long you can stay connected for. BeeJiveIM stays connected for 7 days and can connect to multiple IM services, but then again BeeJive is $9.99! Since it's free i'll give it a shot with my friends. I wonder how it works... It says no password or registration is required - i'm guessing it uses some form of device identification...

This is quite a smart idea for an app - especially if they can get BB and iPhone uses to communicate between each other.

There is no log-in/log-off procedure so you are theoretically connected indefinitely (much like BB Messenger or SMS). Yip, no user name or password (coz you don't actually log in) - uses your phone number to authenticate the program/device, thus it picks up any of your friends from your phone book that also have WhatsApp installed. Pretty cool!
Only been using it for a day or two but pretty neat so far. The developer is also working on group chats and delivery/read receipts (trying to make it as close to BB Messenger as possible).
I also heard that the developer might charge for the app at a later stage so grab it for free whilst you can :D

none of my friends have the iphone. they suck. lol

ok so I admit defeat to not successfully JB to 3.1 on a windows pc. All is working fine except for sms. I can send or receive sms. So im doing a quick restore and jb to 3.0 and will try again over the weekend...unless dev team beat me to it and release redsn0w3 before!!!! Well thats what im hoping for atleast. lol

Im not sure where here you could load it up to. Will do a quick google...

EDIT: Cant seem to find anything local that will work. You could pigeon it to us. :) :) :)
