So the stupid guide below is outdated.. I got confused because I was also under the impressing that pwnageTool doesn't update the baseband anymore...

EDIT: Please let me know when you done uploading :) Will you please create the firmware WITHOUT any custom logos, I want the default stuff...If possible :)
 
Seeing you guys are talking about blackra1n here I thought I would drop my question here:

1. I got my Iphone 3gs last weekend and jail broke it using 3.0.1 and ultrasn0w. Now I used Cydia to install some application. If I upgrade to 3.1.2 will I lose these application if I upgrade to 3.1.2 and jail break it using blackra1n? Can I not backup the deb files on my pc, using ssh?

2. Is South African Phones locked to a network, because I might be wrong but I do believe in RSA a phone my not be networked lock? I'm asking this because I want to know if the baseband updated will really affect me?

follow my tutorial below, cannot backup apps to file, but the backup steps caches the apps and downloads them again

SA vodacom phones are and always will be network unlocked, it's illegal to sell network locked phones in SA

quick question, all the tutorials have some or other app assisted method to help you get the iphone 3G into dfu mode, can you still get it in dfu mode by just following the right steps and not having an application help you?

3G on apple standard 3.1.2 + dfu mode + custom firmware restore = jailbroken right?

lol since when do you ask for help :rolleyes::D

Correct. There is an app i posted a couple of days ago called iREB by ih8sn0w that gets the phone into "white dfu" mode that can be used on windows. Shouldnt be a problem on Mac as there you will just use PwnageTool.

it happens on occasion.... have to get helped to know how to offer it u know.... lol
 
Hi,

I just took delivery of my iPhone. My mms works fine but I can`t go on the net or send/receive emails. I did read through a couple of pages but can`t find the settings. Can anyone post the settings or point me to the correct page. my current APN setting is : iphone.vodacom.za
