Hmm ok guys so it seems the antenna issue IS evident in the iPhone 4. Tests done with my own iPhone 4.

Couple of screenshots to explain:

Phone was held in the EXACT same position and the second pic was taken about +- 10 seconds after the first. I also did this a few more times with the exact same results.

As you notice I have lost all bars of signal and 3G, GPRS circle came about a second after i took the screenshot.

.. as you all know, when your hand covers the black strip along the bottom left side of the phone, it "connects" the two antennae together causing the signal loss

I'm a bit doubtful of this being the simple software problem apple has described (error in calculation of available bars), and i think they (or us iPhone 4 owners) have a much bigger problem in our (left) hands :P

But lets wait and see. Will test it out some more and let you guys know.

** INTERESTING LINK also wrt possible fix : http://modmyi.com/forums/iphone-news/717006-possible-fix-reception-issues.html

Will try give that a shot sometime.

eish, lol.. this is why I avoid 1st generation apple hardware for a few months. You should see if OS4.01 fixes it when released, if it does not sue Apple lol.

@FXIT_MAN ,have you installed any Navigation apps ,do you see any improvement over the 3Gs in terms of navigating , i found the GPS module to be very weak compared to Nokia's holding onto a very accurate signal / direction.

Hmm yeah gonna give it a while and see.. It hasn't really affected me yet, had to deliberately cover the back bar with my finger or left hand to test.
Also just tried it again in another area and the signal only dropped by 1 bar, sometimes none.. So will wait and see

Hmm didn't have many problems with my 3GS although I did use the tom-tom car kit most of the time I was using navigation.

Waiting on a iPhone 4 jailbreak then I'll test the nav out.

i think the TOMTOM made a big difference , with my Nokia's , i can leave the phone anywhere in my car , front seat , back seat ,in my pocket , very accurate GPS , with 3Gs fone basically had to be close as possible to the windscreen , sometimes the signal would still drift

yeah sounds like the experience I had in the US with my 3Gs and navigon. Can't remember what it was like here without tom-tom kit though. Will let you know.

Nice new toy, fxit_man!!

Now you must change your sig. ;)

*I've decided to get myself a Samsung Galaxy S as my next phone, but still keeping my iPhone 3G as a backup....might sell it later.

Agree with 3Gee, I use my Nokia 6210 Navigator if I need to do some serious navigation.

Fxit_man... I have a Iphone 4 waiting for me in the uk, just need to go over next month and fetch it...

do you have the iphone 4 bumper ? if yes have you tried the same experiment with the bumper to see if it really helps? if the bumper solves the issue i don't see a problem as my current phone always has a cover on.

didn't buy a bumper yet. not a fan of cases really. but yeah u should have no problems with the bumper case as its only when you cover the black bar up with your hand.

I've found a case works just as well for the signal issue as getting a bumper. The bumpers look stupid imo.

As If I was miff enough about how bad iOS 4.0 is on the 3G..

This weekend my right side speaker just decided its no longer gona work.. I've never dropped my phone, nor even bumped it actually..

Is this a common problem? Worth getting fixed?

:erm:

Ahem... dude... you know the 3G audio is mono right? As in... there is only one speaker - the other thing is the mic.

Another failplaint from you I guess.

Uhh dude..

Something is wrong either way because I can harldy hear my phone.. thats why I went looking for a fault..

I played a movie trailer last week and thought it was just a bad copy coz I couldn't hear it..

Played a song last night, a song played many times before and I couldnt hear it anywhere near as loud as normal, tunred the phone to hear the sound coming out the bottom.. and nothing coming out the one..

You say one is a mic.. the post below says the mic is the left but I got sound coming out the left and nothing out the right..

Either way, its not loud and something is wrong.
