Anyone installed the lightsaber app? Loaded it this weekend and terrorized the cats. Was worth a solid 5 min of fun!

I just installed the Movies app. Gives info on all latest movies, trailers etc, as well as show times. I think the show times part is for the US only, cause it doesn't work on mine. But having a look at all the latest movies is good, and being able to stream trailers is very cool. I miss most movies trailers on TV, so I think it's quite nice to have this feature. Just not sure how this is going to affect my ADSL cap!!!

I suspect the the iphone.vodacom.za APN will be specifically for people on the Vodacom iPhone contracts.

Is this confirmed, I changed my apn to internet so I can access it, but would like to use the iphone.vodacom.za if it's dedicated. Has anyone been able to use iphone apn successfully yet?

As a matter of interest, where does iTunes save firmware downloads? I just downloaded the latest firmware for my iPod Nano, but didn't install. Where do I find it? This firmware is safe to just install, right?

Thx (Sorry, know its a bit off topic)

Do you have an iPhone contract?

I think that APN has to be activated on your sim card, maybe you can give vodacom a call and ask them?

Ok they say on iphone i must use the iphone apn, I phoned them and they sa it must be activated. Wierd though since it's not so they are locking a fault.

So to confirm the apn should be iphone.

Regarding the Internet settings and use of the APN;

Once you switch the new iPhone on, you need to wait 24hrs for Vodacom.

Then, go to Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network>Select "APN" text box

Now, before you just delete it, write it down somewhere because you will need to change it back to that original APN setting in a month. Vodacom are instituting the iphone APN!

Replace the existing text with "internet" all lwr case and without the ""

Leave Username and password blank.

Click home button, and your set to start surfing.

P.S: I see Fix_IT_Man already posted this info albeit in a slightly different format

Hi Guys,

I need some help on how to "enable" MMS functionality on the new iPhone.

I waded through this thread and found references to Flutter (Which I didnt like but did manage to install) and SwirlyMMS, which I couldn't install.

So I would like to know, where can I download SwirlyMMS from? Do I need to "tamper"/jailbreak my legitimate Vodacom iPhone to get the app installed?

I realy want the MMS functionality and cant believe a media co. like apple left this out of it package.

Yep, get quickpwn to Jailbreak your iPhone...
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ (look for latest version)

You'll get access to some great utilities including swirlyMMS.

Just popped in at the Apple Store at Canal Walk. They have a copy of iTunes running in activation mode which got me wondering what would happen if someone stuck their imported iPhone into their dock? Might be that it will still pick up that the phone is from AT&T, but could be worth a shot ;)

Found a link here on how to get iTunes into the various modes: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=554015

They are asking R400 more for the iPhone on pre-paid than Vodacom, what's up with that?

Edit: Done a bit more reading and it doesn't look like this will help you at home, possibly there is still something at the store that's different, so it might be a fun exercise. http://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=ITunes_Modes

Please explain to me what this "jailbreak" actually does. Thanks

It allows you to run and install unofficial applications on your device, obviously a security risk but as long as you don't go adding unverified repos to Cydia/Installer you won't have this problem.

The bonus is that you can install applications that Apple wont approve(custom theme applications, porn etc.)

Ok cool thanks for explaining. Does it void the stupid/ridiculous warranty?

So now we know what you use your phone for :p

Only if you install bootneuter and downgrade your bootloader(so just avoid that).

Besides if you need to send your iPhone away just do a restore in iTunes and your iPhone will be brand new, no-one will notice.
