oooh, go figure

one thing that's been bugging me, more out of curiosity than anything else, the iphone 3G has an exclusive internet gateway, under settings -> general -> network -> cellular data network, 3G iphones can use iphone.vodacom.za

aparantly you get granted access to this apn if you've activated your iphone with a vodacom number, doesn't matter what contract/prepaid you're on

the normal vodacom apn is just "internet", i can change mine to "internet" and everything still works, i'm just curious to know what the difference is

me too!

The iPhone.vodacom.za APN might not work if you got the iPhone on an upgrade and your contract has not yet been migrated. As I understand it, on Vodacom contracts will only change over on the 1st of each month, so if you bought your iPhone yesterday you would only actually go onto the iPhone contract package (and be granted access to the iPhone APN) on the 1st of November.

Basically like a remote application? I haven't seen anything in Cydia or AppStore... Have you done a search in Google?

Found VNC but only works via WIFI - works quite well. Need something remotely say if I am out of the house.

Sign up for a Dynamic - IP Forwarding Service, Open up ports 5800 and 5900 on your firewall and your good to go

Then connect with your registered host.. i.e. marine1.no-ip.org

;)

Havent done it myself yet, but will when i get a chance!

After I activated my iPhone with a VC sim, it had the iphone APN - internet would not work so I changed it to 'internet' and all is fine - getting hsdpa speeds. Got the phone prepaid and its not linked to my number via VC at all.

Possibly the iphone APN allows you to browse internet at the R1.50 out of bunble rate??? Other than that I don't see what the difference is.

Hey Guys.
Was wondering what the point of jailbreaking was. I know you can run free apps etc. But is it really worth it? What apps would get me to jailbreak. And is there any chance of bricking my phone?

Send MMS's. Preview App Store apps before buying them. Use 3rd party applications. Use iPhone as modem on your PC. There are numerous little things which make it worthwhile - fxit_man will point you in the right direction.
and it is very difficult to brick the phone when jailbreaking (according to the guys on the forum) but apparently you can recover if this happens..

There's no ways you can brick your phone, only if you use iPod firmware to restore your iPhone....

That's happened to someone I know, and he actually managed to get himself out of that mix up...

Nothing has ever gone wrong with my jailbreak....

Not to mention that you can SSH into your phone once you have jailbroken your device..

Jusg keep checking,it will eventually pop up. Happened to me when they released Swirly, mine only showed a day later!
