Cydia is such a waste of time...

Can't eve download OpenSSH as it freezes my iPhone at 50% of its download process...

Can't wait for Installer to get released. fxit - you have any similar problems?

I guess the only reason I havent updated so far is because of Cydia, with so many people complainig about it, and Swirly, havent read anywhere that it is ported yet. Guess once Installer is done I will take the plunge. Also, there have been so many reports of errors with Winpwn, but I see 2.5 us on its way.

I did a rebuild of the custom firmware file without Cydia and my phone is much better... the same as 1.1.4. But again the phone has been on and running for about 24 hours. I will keep you posted if I am running into trouble.

Man that Aurora Feint game kept me up late last night

I don't think I'll be using Installer or Cydia to be honest, I just prefer syncing Apps using iTunes and I can download apps on a local connection with iTunes.

BTW if anyone needs a gift certificate to buy Apps or whatever from the US store you can PM me.

Thx Dobee! Will def make use of your offer in the future. Will that then allow us to buy in the US store?

Thx. So if we have Paypal acc with a different address to the iTunes, they wont work? Do both ha e tp be US addresses?

Yeah, I see Slavikus reported as a comment on his blog that Installer will be availabls tomorrow in Cydia and Pwnage. Pls let us know as soon as one of you have tried it once released.

Only a US address for a US account is needed for the gift certificate, you won't need to enter any paypal details, I have 3 to sell now BTW just click on my sig, the instructions are there as well. ;)

Is that directed at me? If so then the answer would be none, I have no need for cydia or installer yet the appstore has everything I need and even if you restore your iPhone your apps can all be synced back a well now. :)

Thx Dobee! What about BossPreffs and BossTool? What about running out of space for apps like on 1.1.4?

Not a problem, Appstore apps are not stored on the system partition AFAIK so you can download and fill your iPhone with them, appstore has everything I need the only thing it lacks for me is summerboard but I got bored with that ages ago, installer will be good for the hacking/modding scene.

Disable annoying auto-backup

For those of you not familiar with the terminal I wrote a simple application, that lets you disable and enable backups for the iPhone/ipod touch with a single mouse click.

Download DisableBackup

Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 or higher
This only works on the mac.

Disabling the slow iTunes Backup on Windows is a little more tricky, but it works. First of all close ITunes and then follow these steps:

1. Locate your iTunesPrefs.xml file. It’s usually located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes or C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes.

Hint: If the folder Application Data does not show up, make sure that hidden files are visible in the Windows Explorer
2. Backup your iTunesPrefs.xml file
3. Open iTunesPrefs.xml using a capable text-editor (e.g. Notepad++, Ultraedit, but not MS Notepad)
4. Search for a section called User Preferences and paste the following snipped into the User Preferences Section after the first <dict>:

<key>DeviceBackupsDisabled</key>
<data>
dHJ1ZQ==
</data>

After you’ve done that it should exactly look like the screenshot on the left.
5. Save the file and restart iTunes. Backups should now be disabled. To enable backups again delete the XML Snippet from iTunesPrefs.xml file.

1. Upload the Installer.app to the iPhone via SSH to /Applications folder.
2. Make sure the permissions are set to 755 on /Applications/Installer.app/Scythe
3. Make sure the permissions are set to a+srx on /Applications/Installer.app/Installer
