But...
The current version of PwnageTool is numbered 2.0.1 but it does not support the latest ipsw (also numbered 2.0.1) version

Layman’s terms clarifications:-

* If your 3G iPhone is on a regular contract and you always plan to be with the carrier then you can update but you will lose the jailbreak and access to third party (non AppStore) applications.
* If your 3G iPhone is not on a regular contract and you plan to use it on an alternative network to the carrier that supplied it then do not update unless you do it with the impending PwnageTool update.
* PwnageTool v2.0.1 does not work with version 2.0.1 of the iPhone or iPod update from Apple.
* We will release an update to PwnageTool when the testing has been completed and all applied changes have been checked for safety.

Why does Cydia always freeze my iPhone? Even after 5 fresh made Custom Restores in Pwnage 2.0.1 it still doesn't work....

It gets stuck on the "Running.. - Downloading openssl..." screen!! It is the most annoyin thing out, is anyone experiencing the same issue?

All i'm trying to download is OpenSSH so I can change a folder permission!!

I had it installed when I pwnage my phone with 2.0.1 and software version 2.0 and I had bad response. Now I have re-pwnaged my phone without cydia and its working great. I just need to upgrade to iphone 2.0.1 software.

I had that problem with a mates iPhone. What i had to do is, everytime it got stuck, hold the home button and power button to force a restart, then go back to Cydia and continue the update. The update would download a little more and then freeze again. I kept on doing this until the updates finished and finally installed. It was one of the recommended updates.

Took a few tries but it works now without a problem

You've got to be kidding me?!

I must sit like a moron and restart my phone several times simply because Cydia cannot function properly?!?!

After how many restarts did it decide to work?

And yes, it is one of the many recommended updates...

LOL well it's totally up to you.. Just saying how i got my friends to work.

Try install it seperately.. I think it was Core Utilities or Cydia Installer but i cant remember.. It took only 2 or 3 restarts for me.. Happened on another friends of mine as well but i fixed it like that.. Im sure theres probably another way but thats what worked for me.

I'm on restart 6 now and still no luck :(

Upon reading other forums, it seems that the issue is quite common - yet no one has a solution for it yet... Others are blaming fw 2.0 (Maybe that's why 2.0.1 was released so quickly)

Can't wait for Installer 4 though and an update in Pwnage.... (I guess i'll actually just wait till both get released, i've had enough restarting the device so often)

Ah sorry to hear man.. was worth a try though...

Was it at least getting further with the download? Did it resume after you restarted and attempted to download the updates again?

If so, you should keep on restarting :) Not sure what connection you got but it only took a few tries on my 4mbit, maybe yours isnt 4mbit and thats why its taking a bit longer..

But its up to you.

iPhone mail app bandwidth hog

I loaded up a 75MB bundle on my SO's 1st gen 1.1.4 phone 2 days ago. This evening I checked her usage in v4me and found that the bundle was depleted. I called Vodacom customer care, they confirmed that the bundle was used and suggested I check the online itemised bill.

I checked the bill and found that from just after 8am in more or less 20min intervals it generated 5MB of traffic. So I checked with her and she had tried to check her mail (imap) just before 8 but it had failed to connect and she then stuck the phone in her drawer and forgot about it. Fortunately the phone died shortly after the bundle had depleted (1:20pm) otherwise the bill could have been much worse.

So the question, has anyone else had a similar experience? Do I blame Vodacom or the phone? I did check her mail settings and it is set to fetch manually.

OK Gents and ladies

I have a 2G Iphone and it was pwnaged with my MAC from 1.1.4 to 2.0 with Cydia. I had problems with the phone being slow so I re did the custom firmware file with pwnage 2.0.1 for MAC without Cydia and my phone was just 80% better. I also found out that if you buy apps in the apps store that your phone might give you some trouble. So buy apps on your laptop and then let it sync to your phone.

I have now just upgraded my 2G week 27 phone to the latest 2.0.1 apple software through ITUNES 7.7. It took my pwnage icons away and the remains of the jailbreaking apps but it still left my phone unlocked and activated. I have also tested mail, g-maps, in/out calls, web, ipod, youtube and apps store all seems to work a treat.

The phone is much more smoother that before. As I had slow performance in contacts and going from the phone to sms.

Recap
Iphone 2G with 1.1.4 unlocked ziphone
pwnage with 2.0.1 MAC Itunes 7.7 to Apple software version 2.0 (Custom firmware .ipsw restored)
UPGRADED in itunes 7.7 to the latest software 2.0.1 (Not restore but UPGRADE)

You loose:
cydia and jailbreaking

You keep:
unlocked and activation.

Do not do it on a 3G phone as there are no unlock yet just jailbreak for software version 2.0 and not 2.0.1. The DEV team is still working hard to help us on different networks.

Enjoy

PwnageTool2.0.2 with Installer released!
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/45276976/good-morning
(Windows users will find IPSW's made by generous iPhone users for you to restore with iTunes in that link, but do so at your own risk)

If you need the latest firmware(2.0.1) launch itunes and let it download the update(but disconnect your iPhone to avoid updating it by accident), this way you'll get the correct IPSW and it will be saved to a folder on your PC, in Leopard it's Users>Name>Library>iTunes>iPhone Software Updates.

*Hint* if you use local bandwidth start the download in iTunes on international then pause switch to local and continue downloading on local.

The latest firmware allows you to type in your APN under settings again.

Just updated to firmware 2.0.1 !

Must say it is ALOT smoother..Scrolling, typing, opening of apps.. Everything!

I have Cydia and the Installer BETA which came with WinPwn 2.0.2 and its all running smooth.

Must say i did notice something very interesting.

On Vodacom, in General, Network, Cellular Data Network , the APN was automatically set to "iphone.vodacom.za". Seems like Vodacom are ready for the launch of the iPhone here :) Now if only they would set up a Visual Voicemail server :D

I am happy you got to upgrade. I have been running the new software since the 6th and I am very happy with it. No problems with all the new apps I installed.

Apps installed
Remote
Aurora feint
Shazam
Palringo
Twitterrific
Wordpress

Hope you enjoy the new version and I see they have released the new 2.1 Beta 3 version for the phone to the developers.

'Those' apps from 'those' kind of forums.. ;)

Bru, it keeps on giving errors. SSHing to the phone perfectly normal, changing permissions to 775 as i'm told. Transfer the XXX.app file into /Applications like it instructs and it gives an error, "Cannot open this application"... Will try other methods...
