I always thought you were a Mac user...

I'm sure the 2.0.2 update has something to do with the cracked .ipa's, don't you think? Why would they release an update so sooon?

Im both :) Primarily Windows user..

I usually use PwnageTool for Mac because it usually gets released earlier :)

But other than that, im always on Vista running via Bootcamp on my iMac :D

But the new version of Pwnage hasnt been released for Mac.. i meant pwnagetool and not winpwn earlier :p
 
You must be the first Mac user I know that uses Windows primarily ;) but i'm sure there's a reason behind that?

Yep - i'm sure the dev-team will have a version up and running in no time - let's hope so.. I've never experienced so much development (software related) from any other gimmic that I own...

Haha me neither..

I used to be on Windows for COD4... But now i guess i dont really have a valid reason for being on Windows let alone Vista!!

Its been starting to irritate me lately.. Think im gonna cool down in Leopard for a bit :) Thanks for the reminder!!

ok guys the last time i was on we where on page 41 so ive been trying 2 catch up but theres just a bit 2 much going on in this thread for me to take in at once lol

anyway ive finaly decided im gonna upgrade to version 2 but the more i read the more im getting confused...

basicly im starting from scratch and would really appreciate if someone could give me a step by step...as in where do i download version 2 what do i use to jailbreak etc (IM ON WINDOWS), do i need to make backups, o and ive upgraded itunes to the latest verison right??

id really appreciate it...thanks alot guys

ok basically... have you got SSH working? if so, then you can back up your stuff easily

apart from that, the upgrade consists of:

- upgrading your iPhone through iTunes to version 2.0.2 (the latest version)
- going here http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1706 and downloading quickpwn from there
- running quickpwn after you have upgraded which will Pwn, Jailbreak and Activate/Unlock the phone

and thats it really

but lemme know if you got SSH working so i can tell you how to backup your stuff easily (if you need to backup your stuff)

nope i dont have SSH working i always read u guys going on abt it and truthfully i have no idea how 2 do it etc...(im a real beginner ;) just kinda know my basics and try my luck from there lol)when u say backup do u mean my apps, etc or just my contacts, smsz and pics etc?? cos im guessing most of the apps wont work on ver2.0.2?? so basicly just my necessary stuff i wanna keep contacts, msgs and pics etc...

o and just double checking the link u gave me is for the WINDOWS quickpwn right??

o 1 more thing when i download ver2 through itunes does it get saved on pc cos wheneva the phone goes crazy & i need 2 restore etc i dont wanna have 2 download it again...

yeh that link was for windows only

the firmware file gets saved on your pc

On Vista @ C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Appdata\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

On XP@C:\Documents & Settings\<YourUserName>\ApplicationData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

Application data is sometimes a hidden folder so make sure hidden folders are set to "always show" in folder options.

Whenever you need to restore, hold the SHIFT key while clicking restore, and browse for that .ipsw file ;)

For SSH:

Forget about SSH, use this instead..

Lemme know when you have that working and we can start the manual backup process..

As you are upgrading and not restoring, i think all your stuff should stay (minus the apps of course), but once you have that Total Commander thing working (see link above) we will make backups of important stuff such as Contacts, SMS etc just in case ;)

hey again ok ive downloaded total commander and downloaded sum plugin t-pot but not sure what 2 do from there...

im downloadn the new ver2.0.2 at the mo thru itunes so thats gonna take awhile.

so how do i backup ;-)

i.e. Have you managed to get access to the iPhone file system yet?
