hi guys i resolved the issue, it was strange because my 3 g data card had signal wheras my iphone didnt have anything. i reset the device and deleted all internet settings and started from scratch and it worked. but thanks

AFAIK WinPwn is just a wrapper for quickpwn. So it's based on the same methods.

Quickpwn is safer these days, a custom IPSW could be detected by iTunes 8.
I think you need to have neutered the phone once before i.e. pwned with a custom firmware before you can use quickpwn. But yes, you can backup the phone, upgrade in iTunes and then use quickpwn to jailbreak and install Cydia.

I can confirm, happened to myself and with reading many other forums, that iTunes 8 does detect Pwned Custom IPSW's. I just think that a custom firmware is more stable and secure that a QuickPwn update. Don't put your iPhone in DFU/Restore mode when restoring firmware in iTunes 8, otherwise you'll get error 1600/6 without restoring....

I have done one phone so far, and it worked perfectly. Both have been pawned with Winpwn before. Followed iClarified's tutorial, and all fine. Going to do second one now.

@morkhans - I backed up with iTunes, took more than 2 hours! Wasnt too concerned about AppBackup, nothing I was too worried about losing. So except for Swirly not showing up in Cydia, everything seems fine.

hmm.. are u sure it isnt installed already? check in the manage, packages section to see if it is and uninstall/reinstall it
