@ Colin62

The iPhone as a communication, interactive, browsing and entertainment tool/device is pretty awesome. Its easy to use has nice little comfort features and as a result I fear I may need a larger data bundle :)

My ONLY issue with this phone at the moment is the MMS functionality which I am rather suprised t see Apple leave out at this point.

But an update on that, I managed to receive an MMS this morning from another vodacom user on a HTC handset. I just cant seem to open the MMS`s that lie in my inbox from other networks at this point.

Which is rather frustrating cause my brother is on MTN!!!

I really don't want to start (yet another iphone vs nokia debate - I doubt we could say anything that hasn't been said many times before), but to use a car analogy - if I went into a BMW dealership and they told me I had to add a third party device to be able to open my windows, but don't worry because with aircon you'll never need to open the window, I'd rather buy a VW.

@Colin62 - do you have an iPhone? With which SP are you? Lets see if we can get your Swirly working. Once it is set up right, it really does work well. I have both Voda & Cell C working fine, sending and receiving.

You are right, it is a debate that has been going around forever. But I guess we now just accept it, and work around :)

It just happens that one silly ommission is causing them a lot of flack. Rather think of MMS as the MP3 player (a nice to have - not aircon - a must have) Just kidding! :)

Then do that.

Does anyone use an invisibleshield?

I do, pre-ordered from ZAGG long before the phone was available. The front protector works perfectly. I had a nightmare trying to get the back shield fitted perfectly though. I ended up throwing the back shield away. I simply could not get all the bits around the buttons, edges and corners to fit.

I must say that this is by far the most amazing phone I have ever used. The only issue is the KB, not used to touch screen and my fingers are massive :D other than that it is a great phone so far besides also the crappy GPS software. Google maps is useless.

@pooky - if you find free sms let me know pls! :)
The cheapest sms I know of is with Bitesms that limnos referred to. Not sure if there is another way, except as (I think fxit) said, where you login to Voda from your phone?

Anyone here on one of the new iPhone contracts find out if you can get a DataSIM? That way you could share your data on the iPhone with a 3G card. My guess is Vodacom will not be allowing this, but on the other hand I can't see why they shouldn't.

Apps I found today in the Appstore for free.
Zippo lighter (Fun toy)
Stanza (Online book reader/library)

What's even more cool is SonicLighter - if you blow into the mic hard enough the flame blows out ;)

Hey guys I want free sms's on my iPhone. How can I do this?

There's no such thing as 'free' in this world buddy ;) But you can try biteSMS for 6 cents per SMS :) Haven't tried it though but will do once they decide to release v2.4.

Yeah dude rather do that... Find yet another iPhone related thread to bash..

Dunno what you were doing in here in the first place anyways..

This dude's post annoyed me.. Is there no way fxit can become a mod for this thread only and ban idiots like this from the thread. I mean i'm sure the thread reads Tips/Tricks/Apps and not Tips/Tricks/Apps/WishIhadiPhone/hateApple/bashiPhone thread??? I mean honestly, as if there weren't enough threads already about this debate!

At the end of the day my iPhone outdoes my N95 8GB - that's why its hidden in the back of my drawer collecting dust...

Back on topic:

Facebook v2 released (This is absolutely sick, just like the normal site)

Flash for the iPhone (Awesome for those bandwidth hungry flash websites)

Bought myself a GelaSkin today, pretty cool. You can go to their website and download a matching wallpaper. ;)

Hee hee, I was going to mention Stanza, but Im the only one ever referring to books.

@limnos - the gelaskins look so cool. Did you buy it locally? And how much if I may ask?

Free Worldwide SMS's from Your iPhone

Go to http://www.wadja.com (from your PC)

1. Register

2. Confirm your email address (you need to do this in order to be able to send free SMS's)

3. Edit your account details and add your cell phone number in the international format (i.e. 082 123 4567 becomes 2782 123 4567)

4. Click the "Verify code" button which will send you an SMS with a code.. Input this code when asked for it on the edit account page.

5. Naviagte to http://m.wadja.com from your iPhone. (The reason we are using the mobile Wadja site is to save bandwidth if you are not on a data package, not to mention it's quicker to load :) However, you can use the main wadja site if you please) Login wiith your ID and password, and press the "Msg" text under the icon at the top of the screen. (Note you must press the text as the icon is not hyperlinked :p) Another smaller toolbar will appear under the "Msg" icon you clicked on. Select "Compose" and then "SMS" under that.

6. Add this page as a bookmark to your bookmarks folder (or even better, your home screen , by pressing the '+' button while on the page, and pressing "Add to home screen")

For the more advanced users:
I've made a custom webclip for the Wadja bookmark that is on your home screen (as the default one is an ugly white one)
You can find it here. Save the image and rename it to "icon.png" . SSH into the phone and navigate to the "/private/var/mobile/Library/WebClips/" folder. Find the folder of the Wadja icon and replace my icon.png with the one that is in that folder. Resping and voila! :D

Enter the number you want to send to (again in international format i.e. 2782 123 4567) in the "TO" field, type your SMS (of no more than 90 characters) and you're good to go!

NOTE: To send the SMS, press the left blank button (for some reason the buttons didn't have any writing on them when i tested).

Left button = SEND
Right Button = CANCEL

NOTE2: If you keep getting logged out and don't want to keep entering username/password, download 1Password from Appstore for free! This renders the Webclip pretty useless though :p I personally dont mind re-logging in quick for a free SMS!

You can add friends who have a Wadja ID's and a verified mobile number to your friends list. Then simply go to the friends list and select the person you want to SMS, and press the SMS button next to their name.. I tried this with friends who are not registered with Wadja.. I could add them, but when i press SMS, it does fill in their mobile number into the "Recipient" field, but intead some other random friend ID which links to their mobile number if they are registered (i assume)

The only downside to this is a small advert displayed at the end of every message (this is how the company pays for the SMS's though). However, Vodacom4Me does the exact same thing! (The text simply says "FREE SMS WWW.WADJA.COM at the end of the message")

Another thing is that there is a characer limit of 90 characters (but hey, its free!)

The good thing about this is that when the recipient of the SMS receives the message, it says it was from the number that you have verified (your own number) . This way, when people reply to SMS's sent via Wadja, it will come to your phone :)

Lemme know how it goes for you guys :)

I saw it earlier, will give it a try thanks.

They are available locally from shop&ship, bought a griffin leather case for my 2G from them.
