Amazing app - but what to do with it??! Great to show off with - I'm still trying to learn the notes.

Yeah it's fun to show off with and that's about it but I like to play with it, only worried about blowing too much might build up moisture.

Whats that old saying? Say it don't spray it - as in blow don't spit :D - I don't think it would be an issue but thanks for making me wonder about it now.

Sounds like a soft reset? I had to do this after installing something.

I hadn't installed anything, I was typing an sms :p

Just very bizarre, that the phone was dead, and I had to use reboot short cut to start it up and not the power button.
Thanks for the reply though, if you or anyone else does come across it or a reason, I'd love to know more.

Cheers.

Weird problem indeed, a 'soft' reset sends a hardware signal to shutdown the phone completely so this will fix many problems but you should use it with caution.

Hmmm, guess I'm still wet behind the ears on a few points.
Are there any exploits from web sites that could have shut it down?
I was browsing before I was typing the sms.

You can never be sure but I doubt it was an exploit. I had a strange issue were my battery went from full to critical, I tried to charge it but it stayed critical. I just had to switch my phone on and off to fix it though and it never happened again.

Need help

Need help. When I try run QuickPwn I receive a error message "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)" Maybe I'm doing something wrong, new to the Iphone/jailbreaking thing. OS is xp with sp3. Can it be that the problem is with the sp3?

I think winpwn uses .net? maybe you need to install that first.

Aqua lung, Thanx for info, now I'm more confused. I followed the instructions given at this webpage. ( http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1880 ) Is winpwn a application and if so, where do I get it. Sorry if I sound stupid, but I'm new to the Iphone

I call quikpwn released for windows winpwn, just be sure to install the .net libraries from microsoft.

my Iphone also died on me.. got it the friday it was released. but get this.. it died on me the first day of my overseas trip. turned it on.. apple logo of death... tried restoring get the same issues as all the other people on forums overseas.. so 2 weeks overseas without iphone, another 2-3weeks at vodaworld when i return to south africa.. mmhh month and a half without a phone ive only had for 2 months.. paying for something you cant use is GREAT !

Do vodacom issue a loan phone?

Ok, lot has happened!

Had a look at iClarified tutorial to jailbreak.

What does this mean?Important***: Do not attempt these instructions for the 2.2 iPhone Firmware unless you don't care about a software unlock in the future. Using QuickPwn with the 2.2 iPhone

aah ... great stuff. Just updated and Jailbroke 2.2 on my phone and those irritating "slow-downs" seem to have disappeared. They seemed to get worse everytime after I've used Safari. Let's hope it stays that way this time.

Another great thing to keep in mind. If you've installed apps. from Cydia or Installer they're gone after an update. But if you rather use (cracked or non-cracked) ipa files those apps will be there after an update (the cracked ipa's will fail at first and work again after you've jailbroken your phone...at least, that seems to be the case on mine).
Lesson for the day, SCREW Cydia and installer...try to use .ipa files.

This is for the 3G firmware specifically. Since the firmware updates the baseband, they reckon that Apple could possibly be trying to be sneaky and include some sort of anti-software unlock with this baseband update.
They are uncertain that they can unlock this new updated baseband . As they have been working on the pre-update baseband, there is a more chance of there being a software unlock for that one than this new one.

If you have a legally unlocked 3G iPhone bought here in SA, this shouldn't make a difference to you.

Yeah, my phone also seems a bit more "nippier" . You say you updated: it is usaully preferred to restore to a new firmware and not upgrade.. Upgrade wastes a bit of additional storage space. If you are not worried about this then it doesn't really make a difference :) Just make sure you backup your files before you do a restore (either in iTunes or manually)

Avdp, the baseband software on the phone is a small piece of stand alone code that manages the hardware on the phone that has to do with communication on the GSM network (in other words it acts like the phones "modem" by being able to "speak" to the modem hardware). Now, if you've had an earlier phone firmware version and baseband version, and you've used an application to "unlock" the phone to be able to use other networks, the software modifies the baseband software on your phone and allows it to be "unlocked" for any network.

But with update 2.2 they've also included (most of the time they don't) an update for the baseband software (I'm guessing to improve call stability, signal reception etc.). So if you've ever "unlocked" your phone previously the new update will overwrite the previous changes to the baseband firmware and your phone will be locked down to a specific network again (Keep in mind "unlocking" is not the same as "Jailbreaking"..which only allows native apps on the phone to access the file system on the phone)

Fortunately the phones we buy from vodacom are not locked down to the vodacom network. So we don't have to worry about that and you are free to update without problems.

@fxit - thx. Thought that might be the case.

Now I just hope I dont get capped!

hehe...I guess when you've ever just "updated" instead of reinstalling on an OS (I'm looking at you Windows XP SP2) you'll now why it always seems like a bad idea.

Another thing, I see there is another iTunes update. Guess I have to update before I can jailbreak again?
