Ok, first explain, as I have never owned a blackberry, what is BIS?

BlackBerry Internet Solutions.

Basically what I want to know is if there is an app or crack that allows the iPhone to make use of BIS, which is unlimited browsing and push e-mail.

I'm taking a stab in the dark with posing this question, as most forums say "No" :o

Something weird happened...

I downloaded iRealSMS and didn't pay for about a week(never actually used it). And from yesterday all of a sudden the app is working fine, I can send msgs and receive them with iRealSMS and I can read all the msgs, not indicating "demo" anymore, wonder what happened?

Anyway, how do I zoom into a webpage because its basically impossible to read... im a noob i know

Bravestar

the phone came with a VERY short manual called "fingertips", was in the box when you opened it, read through this, it really is quite helpful and it will take you no more than a minute to go through it... will eliminate the 'noob' type questions

when a noob, read the manual.... lol

the phone does not support blackberry because it's an inferior technology, blackberry servers reduce emails to plain text, iPhone email client delivers full featured email

if your email server supports blackberry it will most probably support microsoft exchange, or IMAP4, or at the very least POP3 access, if it doesn't, it's your administrator's fault, go have a scream at him

if you can configure your outlook to download emails when you're not on the office network, then you can configure your iphone to do the same

microsoft exchange allows for emails to be pushed to the phone via 3G, all other types mentioned can be set to a time interval based download

some advice, if you're going to do this, don't get an iphone contract package, get a talk package from vodacom and add a 1gig data bundle, costs more or less the same, you pay in the same for the phone, and you get a lot more data for free

Check out FriendSync. It syncs your facebook contacts with phone adding images etc.

Buddy, I don't think you are allowed to post cracks of software on here. Just go and buy ireal, its not that expensive and its an amazing app

Hey

Ok, well Im still trying to setup a wireless connection using SSH but ive got the following questions:

Is it possible to connect my phone directly to my laptop?

Do I need a wireless router? (I got one just need to make sure)

How do you explain the html emails I get as well as the ability to enable and disable this from the phones settings?

What you're also missing is that the Blackberry comes with an inexpensive unlimited data plan - which is what is holding me back from using my iPhone more. :o

emails sent as html get downscaled to plain text by the blackberry server as far as I know, could be wrong here, never went blackberry myself, my 1gig data plan on top of any vodacom contract is +-R235 per month, not particularly expensive either

HTML email has been available since BlackBerry Device Software v4.5.

To offer a comparison the blackberry add-on to any contract with unlimited data is r69 (or r59 for prepaid).

The blackberry add on is unlimited data only for browsing from the phone itself, not for using the phone as a modem. This coupled with a mediocre browser makes it about as useful as a solar powered car in London.

You find Opera to be mediocre? I know plenty of people who would love to see it on the iPhone.

I use both, daily, but I feel a lot more comfortable browsing on my blackberry knowing I dont have to worry about my data use (same of course goes for gmail, gtalk, facebook, email, flickr, google maps, . . . .) - things I could also do on my iPhone but at a price.

BTW - since you mentioned it - how good is the iPhone as a tethered modem?

Using PDANet, it is absolutely stable, and faster than my 1024 ADSL line. It's quite heavy on the battery though.

Vlad, try the USB tether on the latest PDANet, brilliant and no battery loss

got to agree there - the new PDANet is brilliant via the USB cable - pity the trial has expired now I can't FTP to my homepage anymore to upload web updates - html still works 100% at least. And you right, the battery charges when connected via USB to the PC.
USB tethering does not work on a MAC yet. though

Guys,

when I jailbroke my iphone 2.2 I didn't install Cydia.

I want to install Cydia now, but from what I understand, I can only get it during jailbreaking.

My question is: Do I need to restore and jailbreak again or can I just use QuickPWN and "re-jailbreak" my phone as it is (without restoring) and install Cydia?

+1

I see another copy and paste app has been released, called hClipper. So far I prefer this too Clippy, especially as it is integrated into the keyboard
