Just a question...how would you like to connect? Since a remote is pretty useless if it has an usb cable attached to it Wi Fi is basically your only option, unless apple will allow us to use the bluetooth one day!

There was also some bunch of university students who developed a 'plugin' that plugs into the bottom of your phone and with infra red it can (after being programmed) be used on almost any device in your house.

Never really saw the need to have a remote for your household devices on the phone?? - Now you have to plug in an extra device onto the phone to use it... seems a bit dof. Just grab the blooming remote off the coffee table and switch the TV off/on.

Is there any reason why my iTunes still tells me that my iPhone's V 2.2 software is up to date? V2.2.1 has been out a while now. Not that I want to upgrade at this stage - its just strange.

is a bit sad yes, i saw the notification about the trial, didn't think they'd actually price licensing, thought it was just to force you to upgrade to the release from the beta version ;(

The worst part is, i can still use 2.whateverIhaveNow, without upgrading and use it free, but the moment i do a firmware upgrade I will need to buy the new version.
Thought they would make enough money off hteir biteSMS credits

Agree, but it could also be nice to have one remote for everything (it is kinda geeky, but still cool)

maybe u need to update itunes, but that's a shot in the dark...

anyone notice any increase in dropped calls or delayed sms reception after the 2.2.1 upgrade??

well, if you buy bitesms credits you get a 12 month license free (even with the 3us$ credits)

i figure it's only fair though, because, a lot of users get bites to use it with carrier, not with bitesms server, which is a bit unfair to them, it's a great sms client vs the regular iphone client, and everyone who doesn't send via bitesms network doesn't generate any profit for them

personally i like paying for apps, the developers tend to listen to your complaints better if you paid for their product.... lol

What's wrong with those Harmony Logitech remotes - apart from the price...

here's a hint

everyone on here is tech junkie... just get an HD pvr decoder, that comes with a universal remote, looks exactly like the pvr decoder remote, but, the ring around the arrow and ok buttons turns it into another device's remote everytime you switch it to the next item

takes a few seconds to "teach" it the commands, but works great for me?

Agree with you 100%, have no problem paying for an app for the phone, you know you will be supported, and its not THAT expensive

Hmmm... have not been reminded by Software update yet but will check tonight - thanks

I have done that but prefer to work with the devices remote though - custom buttons and all - That said, I have programmed my TV's remote into my Yamaha Amp remote cause the buttons are a bit buggered from all the pressing etc.

But I hear you - re the remote app - how will it work with the TV for eg without having InfrRed? And the dongle is not worth it...

Screen Protectors

I picked up a Capdase screen protector from Look & Listen for R59 and I must say I'm quite happy with it. I went with the Aris one. It's virtually invisible and very thin so you can't really tell it's there. I was a bit hesitant about this because these things are always so easy to stuff up when applying, but I managed to get it applied correctly and without air bubbles.

I also looked at the ixKata and Mira ones. The mira offers a mirror finish while the screen is off which might have been interesting, but L&L don't stock them yet. ixKata claims to have a fingerprint resistant surface and anti-glare.

Did you see the UIRemote project? Might be what you are after.

Had a mirror finish screen protector but removed it after a day or 2 - you could clearly see there was something over the screen when it is lit up and it irritated the **** out of me. Went for a clear one after that and its been on since i got the phone.

I had a screen protector on from day one fearing that the studs on the coin pocket of my jeans (which is what I wear most of the time) would scratch the hell out of the screen - that cover started to come off in one corner so I ditched it and honestly I haven't looked back.
The iPhone screen is astonishingly scratch resistant, I don't even think about it anymore.

Hmm.. doubt if I'll bother - between Shazam and Ocarina I impress the h3ll out of non iphone users anyway.

I think it will be really cool to be able to change the channels of TVs in bars, restaurants etc. :D

Edit: I'm missed the fact that @hxc87x was the OP.
