Tried it the other day, still does not have voice prompts (but its in the next update according to the website), was working fine, did not drive anywhere ( as its still beta and might force me into a ditch), only crap was that because its google maps you need to download the area you are in, you are suppose to be able to download a large chunk of the maps to make it run more smoothly but only downloaded a little bit to test.

looks like their turn by turn will still be based on google's directions though?
 
Unfortunately yes, but one can hope it will be better with the new google maps for south africa. The main problem with apple is that they have no maps, or no company supplying them with maps, so the only alternative is google

bravestar, you CANNOT use the same firmware to jailbreak as you originally did, you have to use the same firmware file you used to do the restore (if i understand your posts correctly, you restored with itunes, and jailbroke with a different file), so, if you did a restore with itunes, you jailbreak using quickpwn with the file located in the itunes directory, look for the latest file in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates (vista)
or
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates (xp, i think, might need to search a bit)

effectively, quickpwn compares the software on the phone with the one you point quickpwn at, and applies the differences, if you point quickpwn at an oder file than what's on your phone, you screw with quite a few things that ought not be screwed with....

did you activate your phone with itunes after the jailbreak?

Hey man, I did restore with itunes using the exact same file I later used to jailbreak with quickpwn(downloaded the file from a link I got from iClarified), for some weird reason it worked after I restored for the 3rd time and jailbreaked for the 3rd time, don't know why... but the phone is working perfectly now.

Anybody got a better app than PYSL to use for blocking numbers(SMS & CALL)?

Hey,

Did you restore with itunes using the file you downloaded for jailbreaking?

"Holding shift and clicking restore" & navigating to the file you downloaded?

Try the jailbreaking process from the start again, I had to jailbreak mine 3 times before it actually worked using the exact same file the entire time.

Btw I had the exact same problem, no signal at all with a vodacom bought phone.

Might work for you!

Hi Guys, Im new to the forum and to the iphone. My question is i really want Shazam but do not have a credit card so no american itunes account. Is there any way to download this without an account?
 
First off my sincere apologies if this has been brought up in this thread prior to this post. I realy don't want to filter through 186 pages to find this issue.

I was sent an iPhone 2g from the states. I proceeded to unlock and jailbreak the phone without much hassle. I have been using the phone without problems for about 6 months now.

Recently (last month) there appears to be a "dead zone" on the interface. The "dz" is located 1cm from the bottom of the phone and runs horizontaly. I am unable to hit the "ADD CONTACT", "CALL" and "DELETE" button when in phone mode and unable to hit the "zxcvbnm" keys on the keyboard.

I have googled this issue and found various iffy solutions all of which have failed and caused terrible verbal abuse of my dog.

I don't know if anyone has any thoughts on how to resolve this, I have pretty much concluded that it is a hardware defect.

Weird man. Bravestar was having the same problem and he said doing it a few times fixes this. Wonder why it does this!?

My first post explains this :) Just change the country to USA in iTunes Store ;) (Click the flag in iTunes store)

Hmm that's a crap one! Will try research for you but it also sounds like a hardware fault / damage to me unfortunately!

iPhone Trick: Quick and Easy Way to Turn Off Auto-Correct Feature

"A bilingual reader of our Aussie cousin, Lifehacker Australia, found that by typing out a "z," then touching and dragging to back up the cursor behind it, he could write as far outside the constraints of his native land's language as he wanted. Typing behind the Z leaves auto-correct unable to guess what word you could possibly be forming—"Restaurantz?" it asks, with a resigned shrug—so it leaves you alone. Works on any iPhone/touch app that features spelling correction, actually."

Actually this trick works with any letter/word and isn't specific to the letter "z" . If you move the cursor directly behind any letter/word then you should be able to type without the auto-correct feature correcting you.

you sure this still works fxit? tried some time ago to create an account for a friend and the none option would only work if you used a usa itunes voucher number as well? apple seems to have plugged all of the holes that let you create a usa account... well, aside from buying a USA store voucher that is

I loved these handheld games when I was a wee lad, 1981, got my first one, bought it for R30, it was Octopus.

Downloaded it, and can't stop playing it, wish the company would bring out popeye, it was the handheld I really wanted!!! Never got it though.

But like the article said, wait till intendo finds out, then it will dissapear from the appstore

Yeah I made one 2 days ago! Granted I didn't change the country (not sure what it was on - prob SA by default but it still worked! The none option was still there!)
